It amazes me how little the programmers thought about these quests when the Allied races would reach and do them.

At the moment, I'm playing a Highmountain Tauran. I understand we need the "bread crumb" quests to move onward. However, a little, just a little thought could have gone into these quests for the Allied races.

Such as for this quest, The Story of Huln where Spiritwalker Ebonhorn says, "I will tell you the story of Huln Highmountain."

Really? As a Highmountain Tauren I wouldn't have heard this tale at any time during my life on Highmountain before I left to join the Horde? Really? I don't believe there a man, woman, or child born on Highmountain that doesn't know the story. (Paraphrasing Mathesar Galaxy Quest)

So, why is he talking to me as if I've never lived here, never heard of Huln Highmountain? Because the programmers didn't stop to think about who we are. Where we come from when we get to these quests. Just a little thought, as I said, could have gone into these quests for the Allied races. And, actually, only TWO of the Allied races needed any such forethought, Highmountain Tauren and Nightborne. Flag the dialog that when given to a Highmountain Tauren for this quest to change something like, "You remember the story of Huln. For generations the tauren of this mountain fought. Countless lives-- even entire tribes--were lost..."

The programmers are capable of this as evidence when the dialog names us specifically, it's flagged to place our name at just the right place in the dialog, or when they mention our specific race or class. It's easy, flagged Highmountain and place dialog wherever it needs to be. Thousands of quests are designed just like that.

Sadly, from Blizzard's track record of fixing dialog, I doubt any kind of thought will go into making these quest, Highmountain and Suramar for the Nightborne, better fit the situations. The dialog works, sends us where we need to go, but lacks imagination, "realism" as it were. So, they'll not give it a second, I doubt they even gave it a first, thought. After all, all we really need to do is finish the quest. Be damned that the story, lore actually fit the quest.

Wasn't it fun when Blizzard recognized players as lazy in Hillsbrad Foothills when they designed a quest to make us the quest giver to see the "newbie", the arrogant player, and the player who reads the bare minimum to do the quest. I got the impression they were trying to get us to read the quests, understand what we're suppose to do, get to know the story, the lore. Then, now, the programmers become lazy themselves and to hell with lore, just do the quests. It's sad, really, just a little effort could have given a little spark into a quest most of us have done time and time again.

Yeah, I'm a Highmountain Tauren, I've known the story of Huln Highmountain since I could talk. After all, he made Highmountain into "Together, we are Highmountain!" Why wouldn't I know the story?

You work to unite the tribes. That is no small task. It has only been done once before in the history of this mountain. Huln Highmountain last united the tribes thousands of years ago to take on the Legion during the War of the Ancients.

Where this quest fits

Before this quest

Taken from the storyline's own step order.

  • A Walk With the SpiritsHighmountain · Level 10-45

The spiritwalker you saved from Riverbend has been insufferable since his arrival. He is insisting on showing you the ways of our people so that you better understand what is to come. He is a strange one, even by spiritwalker standards. Even so, only a fool would discard his insight.

After this quest

Taken from the storyline's own step order.

  • To See the PastHighmountain · Level 10-45

I would like for you to experience firsthand what Huln Highmountain was able to accomplish in a single battle during the War of the Ancients. To do so, I will need very specific ingredients. They are not too difficult to obtain--you can find all of them near Thunder Totem.
