I found that because I slightly left the zone (looking for watery areas for the Strider), it caused the quest to stop tracking credit for defeating the specified pets. If you leave the zone, make sure you go back to the area where the World Quest is triggered to start earning credit again. It didn't reset my progress, it just didn't display the progress and I couldn't complete the quest until after I had re-obtained it from the area it triggers in.
