Had to kill almost 50 of them to get 8 hide. 20 years and Blizzard still hasn't quite nailed down logical drop rates.
So if you are stumped on this, go to the shop where Deputy Zo'mi is (coords: 46.8 57.6) in Tazavesh, (he has a repeatable quest if you want as well) and use the phase conduit there to enter the city phased. Go out on the Tazavesh streets and kill these ghostly "Untethered Bumpskull reptiles. Watch out for the elite Untethered Jawheads as they are harder to burn down.

You can have the fruit, but only if you do me a favor first. Something is watching us. You can't see it, but the smell of the fruit draws it to us. Hidden monsters lurking just beyond our sight. Gain access to the Untethered Space, hunt these creatures down, and bring me their hides. I want proof that these creatures actually exist!
