Discs of Norgannon

After the hotfix on the first night this daily was active on US servers, this quest has functioned very strangely. I've finally figured out how it works. I believe they made it work this way in order to eliminate the situation where abandoning your quest in order to resummon another type of rare was the correct solution. Each data disc is associated with one set of rares, so there's no advantage to abandoning the data disc quests now (except to trigger them later for guildmates or friends).

From my experiences, these are the following data discs available and which NPCs they spawn:

• [item=169474]: Spawns either [npc=152964] (Lord Incendius), [npc=152976] (Meathook), or [npc=152969] (Razorlash). They are always lootable. They drop between 2 and 4 Spare Parts every kill. They can also rarely drop their appropriate boss loot (at what appears to be a much lower frequency than the elites). It does not appear that they can drop the blueprints or vinyl music tracks, which is what most players are really after.

• [item=169591]: Spawns either [npc=152958] (Hogger) or [npc=152923] (Razorclaw the Butcher). Looting them is a mutually exclusive action, doable daily. Killing one of them triggers a hidden tracking quest with ID 57385.

• [item=169593]: Spawns either [npc=152961] (Balnazzar) or [npc=152922] (Captain Kromcrush). Looting them is a mutually exclusive action, doable daily. Killing one of them triggers a hidden tracking quest with ID 57387.

• [item=169594]: Spawns either [npc=152979] (Baron Kazum) or [npc=152983] (Crowd Pummeler 9-60). Looting them is a mutually exclusive action, doable daily. Killing one of them triggers a hidden tracking quest with ID 57388.

• [item=169595]: Spawns [npc=153486] (Baron Geddon). Looting him is doable daily. Killing him triggers a hidden tracking quest with ID 57389.

This means that you can effectively loot 4 elites each day. I don't know if which elite of the 3 pairs of two elites actually matters for the important items like the vinyl or the blueprints. I would hope they all drop those at the same rate.

I personally found some of these comments either confusing or misleading in regards how to effectively farm the rares which drop the vinyls and blueprint from the Discs of Norgannon daily quest. So I am going to put in my (hopefully not too long) write up as of end SL/DF prepatch.

Things to note:
1) The Discs of Norgannon quest is a prerequisite to being able to farm these rares and it will disappear after the daily reset.
2) You will need to devote an hour or several hours depending on RNG to maximize your attempts to farm up the vinyl and blueprint.

What do you need to do start farming these rares which drop the vinyl and blueprint:
1) Wait for the Discs of Norgannon quests to be up.
2) Complete and turn in the quest (the "bosses" summoned from this quest have no useful drops)

Now that the quest is turned in, get ready to start mowing down a lot of mobs for rare drops. There are four special discs that are used to summon rares which drop the vinyl and blueprint. These four discs have some pretty awful drop rates and will only drop if Discs of Norgannon is up today and completed. This means if you fail to obtain any of the special disc before the Discs of Norgannon daily expires, you will have to wait for the daily to appear again before you can obtain them again.

Now actually getting these special discs to summon the rares:
1) Large Storage Fragment: Drops from various mechagnome mobs and rares. Low drop rate. I found the Western Spray (around where Steel Singer and Paol spawn as a decent place to farm)
2) Cracked Numeric Cylinder: Drops from various trogg mobs and rares. Also a low drop rate. Just mow down every trogg you see in Scrapbone Den.
3) Rust Covered Disc: Drops from the recycling quest box reward in Junkwatt Depot (and from the hard Mode of the Rec Rig construction project). I got this from the epic recycling box I opened, so I cannot say much about the drop rate.
4) Scorched Data Disc: Drops from the recycling quest box reward in Junkwatt Depot. Also a low drop rate. Can be dropped by Paol on the Western Spray as well.

Get as many as these discs you can get, if not all before the daily reset.

Now you have 1-4 of these special discs on you:
1) Accept the quest from the disc and do the objective (kill and loot the rare)
2) DO NOT TURN IN THE QUEST. AFTER YOU KILL AND LOOT THE RARE, ABANDON THE QUEST.

Since the quest is tied to the item, just pick up the quest again tomorrow for another kill and so on. One thing I noticed is that of the three I had time I collected, only one mob yielded loot. I am not sure how the lockout works or if there were any shadow hotfixes with this or what.

There is a total of four items that drop during Discs of Norgannon. You will want to try and pick at least one of each of them up. They are:

While it is true that you can only get loot once per day from them you can start the quest, kill rare, abandon the quest and the next day repeat. This should allow you four attempts to get the blue prints and vinyl each day.
