In general, you only get ONE CHANCE at this quest per week per character and you have an exact 1 hour time window to complete this quest. Disbanding and picking it back up does not work. The quest has a 1 hour time indicator and you get a buff called [spell=456024].

For each unique fish out of the 20 available you catch out of the while this buff is up you gain 1x [currency=3055], and if you caught all 20 (in 1 week or spanning over multiple weeks) you get the achievement The Derby Dash and the mount [item=223286]. For completing the quest you gain 10x [currency=3055] and you can choose between 2x [item=224752]/2x [item=225770]/2x [item=225771].

For this week (other weeks below):

General tips and notes:

I recommend going for Kaheti Slum Shark first. You're most likely to get a Kaheti Slum Shark from a [object=451678] with high enough fishing and perception (say around 225+ / 200+ respectively). [object=451678] is a highly contended pool which can only be found from Inland Rivers in Hallowfall. You could chance your luck and fly out to Azj-Kahet in search for [object=451681], but they have a really low spawn rate in my experience. You're better off server hopping to keep searching for [object=451678].

For the other two fishes I recommend flying to Isle of Dorne, while they can technically be fished from open waters, you're most likely to find them in pools. Dilly-Dally Dace drops from an assortment of pools, but you're most likely to find it from a [object=451670], whilst still a bit rare. Do be on the lookout for [object=451677] though as it has a higher chance to be fished up from those!

Dornish Pike is only found from [object=451670] although a bit rare especially at lower fishing levels. I would recommend purchasing a [item=219004] beforehand to guarantee you'll get it.

I can confirm that the autocompletion "bug" for alts still works. I completed the quest today, December 7 2024, on 26 characters (70+) in less than one hour. That gave me approximately 261 [currency=3055] and 52 [item=224752]. (I am already at 100/100 with my threads.)

Here's my method:

  • I parked all my alts at the nearby platform at /way 43.00, 58.93, mounted and ready to go.

(Based on another comment I saw earlier, I made sure to log in on all my characters before I started, apparently you need to in order for the autocompletion to work.
Also, I had to make sure that the "find fish" ability was on, for some reason this has a tendency to uncheck by itself on some of my characters.)

  • I finished the quest as quickly as I could with my engineering mage, HS set at Mereldar. The combination of a mage portal, wormhole generator and HS saved me some time.

  • Then I logged in on my next character, flew a few seconds, took the quest, found the nearest pool, through it in, and the quest was automatically completed on my first successful cast. (You need to get a real fish, doesn't work with grey items.)

  • Handed it in, flew back to the platform for a quick logout, rinse and repeat. When I was finished I had approximately 20 min left of my mage's buff, so I could easily have done it with many more alts, if I would have had more.

Happy fishing!

  • Derby Marks for catching each fish while the Derby Dasher aura is active are now character-specific, instead of shared between your Warband (20 Marks per character).

  • Captain Oathmyt's “Hallowfall Fishing Derby” quest is now character-specific, instead of shared between your Warband.

  • “Hallowfall Fishing Derby” quests now award 10 Mereldar Derby Marks per completion.

  • “Hallowfall Fishing Derby” quests now give the option of either 2 Soaked Journal Entries, 2 Algari Seekerthreads, or 2 Algari Anglerthreads per completion.

  • Fish specific pools such as the Royal Ripple and Swarm of Slum Sharks will now persist longer when found.

This means that all characters on the account can do the weekly quest and get 10 [currency=3055] plus 2 Warbound skill items (as well as any Marks from unique fish).

What to do

StorylineHallowfall Fishing Derby, step 4 of 5

Description

Life is always on the edge here, {name}. Nerubians, kobyss, hunger--there's always something ready to kill you. So we need to find times to relax, and challenge ourselves at something other than survival. Like fishing. My dad always spent Saturdays fishing, when I was growing up. He'd say, "Take some time for yourself, or you can't be effective for others." So every Saturday, I challenge people to the Hallowfall Fishing Derby. You have one hour to catch trophy fish. See what you can bring me!
