In general, you only get ONE CHANCE at this quest per week per character and you have an exact 1 hour time window to complete this quest. Disbanding and picking it back up does not work. The quest has a 1 hour time indicator and you get a buff called [spell=456024].

For each unique fish out of the 20 available you catch out of the while this buff is up you gain 1x [currency=3055], and if you caught all 20 (in 1 week or spanning over multiple weeks) you get the achievement The Derby Dash and the mount [item=223286]. For completing the quest you gain 10x [currency=3055] and you can choose between 2x [item=224752]/2x [item=225770]/2x [item=225771].

For this week (other weeks below):

  • Bloody Perch - [object=451678] (Guaranteed)
    • Every zone except Azj-Kahet

  • Roaring Anglerseeker - [object=451675]
    • Exclusively Hallowfall - Best luck along the southern coast

    • Get [item=219006] beforehand

  • Spiked Sea Raven - [object=451670] / [object=451669]

    • All over Khaz Algar

General tips and notes:

This is one of the easier weeks with all the fish being able to be fished from one zone, Hallowfall. Focus on getting Bloody Perch first, as [object=451678] is highly contended. Be on the lookout for [object=451671] and [object=451677] as they can also drop from those.

I had the best chance of finding [object=451675] along the south-western coast of Hallowfall for Roaring Anglerseeker. Though the pools might be highly contended during this week. If you're running out of time make sure to buy a [item=219006] and just start fishing in open waters.

Spiked Sea Raven is quite easy to find, especially at higher fishing and perception levels. It drops from a variety of pools, but your best shot is getting this in the most abundant pool [object=451670]. If you're having trouble finding this pool in Hallowfall I recommend going to Isle of Dorne and fly along the coast there! Also be on the lookout for [object=451669] and fish in those whenever you can!

Once you get a Bloody Perch or Roaring Anglerseeker and the pool isn't consumed yet, leave it for someone else!

[npc=226846] is the host of the Hallowfall Fishing Derby, so she will only be available on Saturdays while the event is active for 24 hours.
/way #2215 44.22 61.59 Captain OathmytShe's a trainer for [skill=2876], the [currency=3055] vendor, and gives the quests for the Hallowfall Fishing Derby that will reward 25x [currency=3055] when turned in.

Every Saturday, [npc=226846] offers players one of these five quests that will reward 25x [currency=3055] for completing and turning it in that day:

Hallowfall Fishing Derby

  • After accepting a quest, you'll be buffed with [spell=456024] for 60 minutes. You can not refresh that buff or get a new one that day on any character of your Warband, so you have exactly one hour to catch all the required Trophy Fish (and finish other things we can achieve while we have the buff).

  • You can pause in between, the buff timer will not continue when logged out. (keep in mind that with the start of Sunday, everything incl. the vendor/quest turn-in will be gone)

  • The Trophy Fish required to complete these quests are no special (or extremely rare) quest items. They are regular catches we see in Khaz Algar waters all the time, but to get credit for the quest, you have to catch them with [spell=456024] active!

  • This means, for the completion of a quest you should focus on getting the three required ones by fishing in the zones & pools mentioned in the following table or your Fishing Journal (when the character caught one of them before), but it's not urgent to turn in the quest, you have the full Saturday to do that.

  • Tied to the Hallowfall Fishing Derby event, we have the The Derby Dash achievement with the [item=223286] reward... something you can use the remaining time of your [spell=456024] on when you got all the required Trophy Fish for your Fishing Derby quest.

  • Basically, you travel around and try to catch every fish once and turn in your Derby Quest (at least once) while the buff is active.

  • While most catches are straight forward, Awoken Coelacanth not only needs a very high Fishing skill, but also some preparation. Please read the comments there, it would only bloat this one more and they did a good job explaining it.

  • There's no guarantee that they will never change that, but right now, activities for this achievement don't have to happen in a single attempt on the same day. The progress will not reset, so you can continue with some missing fish on another Saturday.

[/toggler][toggler name="Vendor & Currency Acquisition" closed=true]

  • One of the major reasons to do the Fishing Derby is to acquire the special [currency=3055] currency that is required to purchase items from [npc=226846].

  • One week before Early Access, we finally saw a reward for the Fishing Derby quests, your character will now get 25x [currency=3055]. The quest will be shared to all character of your Warband, so you can only get this once per week.

  • For every unique fish caught with the [spell=456024] buff active, you will also receive 1x [currency=3055], so up to 20 per week.

  • While the actual currency [currency=3055] can only be acquired on Saturdays, [item=226392] can be fished in Khaz Algar waters all the time and then be turned into the currency. But don't use them immediately, keep in mind that you can put them into your Warband bank to use them on characters without the currency to unlock the currency transfer (e.g. for recipe purchases).

[/toggler][toggler name="Hints & Issues" closed=true]

  • Fishing Derby quests are shared between characters of your Warband, but that is not happening for [spell=456024]. This buff will only be applied to the first character accepting the quest. This is pointless because it is mandatory to get credit for Trophy Fish, loot currency on unique catches, and progress on the achievement.

  • During Beta and on the second weekend on Retail, some characters never got the [spell=456024] buff, which excluded them from the event. This seems to be fixed by now.

  • Originally, abandoning the Fishing Derby quest revealed a probably unintended way to use an army of alts to get more of the currency or ignore the 60-minute timer for the achievement. With the Derby Marks for unique catches being character-specific, you could accept the quest on one character, go for as many unique fishes to collect up to 20 Derby Marks. Then you abandonded the quest, switched to your next character, rinse, and repeat. This has been fixed, only your first character accepting the quest will get the buff!

What to do

StorylineHallowfall Fishing Derby, step 3 of 5

Description

Life is always on the edge here, {name}. Nerubians, kobyss, hunger--there's always something ready to kill you. So we need to find times to relax, and challenge ourselves at something other than survival. Like fishing. My dad always spent Saturdays fishing, when I was growing up. He'd say, "Take some time for yourself, or you can't be effective for others." So every Saturday, I challenge people to the Hallowfall Fishing Derby. You have one hour to catch trophy fish. See what you can bring me!
