TheWoWDBIf you have this quest in your log on the day you become exalted and don't turn it in before you hit exalted, you won't be able to turn it in right away because your cloud serpent will disappear from it's pen as part of the storyline. However, it will reappear in its pen the following day allowing you to turn in the quest. I imagine this goes for any of the quests that you turn in directly to your cloud serpent.

As patch 5.3 (maybe before), you don't need to wait the following day, you just have to logout and login again, and the cloud serpent will be there to turn in the quest.

Description
I see you have gained your own hatchling, {race}. Have you been feeding it, cleaning after it, and playing with it properly? Only by doing so will it become strong and healthy. Now let me tell you a trainer's secret. To the north, in The Widow's Wail, you can find a mushroom known as Serpent's Scale. It is difficult to acquire, but this mushroom has powerful properties and important nutrients. Your serpent won't like eating it, but who likes eating their vegetables?
