Vandel in this quest is a character from the novel Illidan. He lost his son in the Third War, he was eaten by a felhound, and so Vandel sought out Illidan to train him to be a demon hunter and get revenge on the Legion. He eventually became one of the higher-ranked demon hunters, and during the Black Temple raid he fought Maiev in Supremus's courtyard before Maiev knocked him out. Because Vandel was unconscious he didn't travel to Mardum with the rest of the demon hunters, and when he woke up to see the raid team celebrating, he silently slipped away. As Vandel left he thought he heard Illidan whisper in his mind, "You must be prepared." That was the last time we saw him.
Man that's dope.

Description
Mardum has been quiet for months. I wonder why the Legion is attacking us now? Could be in retaliation for destroying their battleship on the Broken Shore... We had better head down ourselves and save the day, don't you agree?

Pins are the quest’s own POI points from the current retail client, projected onto the in-game zone map. The game marks one blob as the quest’s turn-in; the rest are objective areas. Points that fall outside a map’s window are dropped rather than guessed at.

We will have our work cut out for us finding the missing scouts and Lady S'theno. I suspect that one does not wish to be found. Do your best, <name>!
