TheWoWDBEven if you do it all by hand and don't use the elemental, she still says you scratched it. I did it by hand to see if there was different dialogue if you continue to go by hand. There was not, just save your time. *sigh*

I was saddened by this myself. Would've been right up Blizzard's alley to have two different sets of dialogue depending on whether or not you used the elemental, but I was disappointed. :(
No, archaeology does not make a difference. I have mine to Legion max and did it all by hand, and still had the scratch result. Disappointing, but I guess I was expecting too much from a throwaway WoW quest.
