The Wine's Gone Bad is randomly available in Azsuna (43.38, 8.47) and only visible if you've unlocked World Quests.
Rewards will vary.
- Quick Note: this is NOT a part of Family Familiar, but does count towards Battle on the Broken Isles.

This team will consist of:

  • Vinu (level 25 epic zinfandelemental)
    [pet-ability=354] | [pet-ability=1010] | [pet-ability=564] | passive: [pet-ability=1089]

  • Random pet of random quality #1

  • Random pet of random quality #2

Lately my original team has not been as effective in this fight as it was when I first posted. While this could be RNG, I developed a second/new strategy with a different slot 1 pet - just in case.
.

My Team [og]:
1. [npc=66950] (1,2,1)
2. a water strider (1,1,2)
3. [npc=81431] (2,2,2)
My Team [new]:
1. [npc=53048] (2,1,2)
2. a water strider (1,1,2)
3. [npc=81431] (2,2,2)
Pet #3 (Teroclaw) is for the random rest of the team, any favorite will probably work just as well (ex. [npc=68850])
vs. Vinu ([pet-ability=1010] = RNG)
  • [pet-ability=564] on CD

  • [pet-ability=513] on CD

  • [pet-ability=118] to fill / until PWS dies

  • Bring in Water Strider

  • If Vinu is underground, [pet-ability=123], otherwise spam [pet-ability=297]

vs. Vinu ([pet-ability=1010] = RNG)

  • [pet-ability=513]

  • [pet-ability=297] (charge)

  • [pet-ability=297] (hit)

  • [pet-ability=297] (charge)

  • [pet-ability=513]

  • [pet-ability=297] (hit)

  • [pet-ability=593] (2 rounds to recover)

  • Try to [pet-ability=513], prolly die.

  • Bring in water strider

  • If Vinu is underground, [pet-ability=123], otherwise spam [pet-ability=297]

vs. Cronies
  • Dispatch as necessary with your water strider and pet #3.
    (Teroclaw priority:
    [pet-ability=574] > [pet-ability=504], save [pet-ability=312] for any big attacks.)

vs. Cronies
  • Dispatch as necessary with your water strider and pet #3.
    (Teroclaw priority:
    [pet-ability=574] > [pet-ability=504], save [pet-ability=312] for any big attacks.)

FWIW, people also seem to be having a lot of luck with:

  1. Elemental Beavers (link), and

  2. Moths (link)

Vinu is a legendary pet found at the vineyard entrance in Northern Azsuna. He's available to fight whenever his World Quest, 'The Wine's Gone Bad', pops up. He'll have two wild pets from Azsuna as backup- they'll vary between days but won't change within a given day.

Vinu's damage all has big wind-up, making moves such as Bubble very valuable. I used Syd the Squid (Water Jet/Bubble/Cleansing Rain) for the extra value of his Magic racial. The key is that Aquatic damage/Bubble, so other options include the Sea Calf, Benax, Ghostshell Crab, Mud Jumper, Squirky, Stout Alemental, and the Swamp Croaker. Any two of the above will do splendidly, alternately you can probably brute-force the fight with any three Aquatic pets.

With Syd the Squid, round 1 is Water Jet, followed by Bubble, then Cleansing Rain. Spam Water Jet until round 8, then use Cleansing Rain again on that round. Refresh Bubble as soon as it comes off cooldown, then spam Water Jet until Vinu dies. If using two pets with Bubble, you could switch between them after the first Bubble is consumed for a fresh Bubble. Clean up the backline pets using your best judgement and you're done! This fight is pretty straightforward and should be an easy World Quest for anyone with some basic pets.

A full video guide of the strategy I've laid out can be found here. I hope this helps somebody!

Defeating Vinu for The Wine's Gone Bad is also the criteria for Battle on the Broken Isles that rewards [item=139003].

*Based on other comments I started with moths & skimmers. Both of which are too reliant on RNGesus for my taste. To those who got lucky using them, I salute you. I wasn't lucky. So I decided to find a team that would win regardless if crits and/or mistakes were made. Chi-Chi vs Vinu isn't a fast fight but worth it -imho.

FIRST PET *lvl pet

First move use a "1 round" only ability then switch to [npc=72462] and follow priority. Otherwise start with Chi-Chi.

SECOND PET [npc=72462] (2, 1, 1)

Priority:
[petability=504] as filler.
[petability=254] while 1stack is active.
[petability=998] when Vinu dives.

  • At the beginning of the fight: use [petability=504] until Vinu uses [petability=564] > [petability=998] > [petability=254]. Then follow priority. When Vinu dies switch to [npc=68845].

  • If [petability=254] is used twice in a row or the buff drops entirely, fear not. Follow the next priority rule. As long as the mistake was detected quickly and many aren't made, Chi-Chi should recover nicely.

THIRD PET [npc=68845] (P/P) (1, 2, 2)

Once Vinu dies bring out this guy. He will one shot both moths without any trouble.
apply [petability=589]
then use [petability=489]

*note: it's been brought to my attention the back pets are common to the zone and will be random; which means the nexus whelp may/may not be effective each time. So I tested Chi-Chi solo. My first pet was a lvl23 and gained 616xp. I also let Tranquility stacks drop each time using it to rebuff. Point is Chi-Chi still rocked it.
