You can easily complete this quest by dropping down a target-dummy toy next to the npc, and hitting that for a minute or two.

edit: I've heard reports of dummies despawning when within the camp. if that happens, try placing it outside - or go kill 1-2 event bosses in caves.

I went and did the other weeklies on the island, and realized I had made 0 progress towards this quest, despite killing a bunch of mobs, rares, etc. I have the ring equipped so I was confused. I'm a BM hunter and so I tried dismissing my pets, and now suddenly I'm able to make progress on the quest. Idk whether I was just killing the mobs too quickly to proc the ring, but maybe this will help someone.

Description

This ring that you and Bargus found has taken you all over the isle learning its history and finding its treasures. The ring has aided you in your exploration--and in battle. But, we have never truly pushed the ring to find its limitations. Perhaps some formal testing is in order. Perhaps we can unveil more of its potential if we invite a bit of danger. Go now and test the ring against any worthy opponents you can find. Come back to me with your observations.
