This is probably the most versatile racial you will find. Each class has their own reason why this ability is incredible, but I will add just the shaman ones (and some useful for all classes), that being my chosen specialty:

  • Can be used while in Ghost Wolf without breaking the form (although the rocket animation fails to happen, so it merely looks like a very powerful jump)

  • Can be used in conjunction with [spell=79206] and a swiftness buff to make a speedy escape from melee, followed by a withering mobile barrage of spells or mobile healing.

  • Can be used as an improvised 'charge' as enhancement, but beware overshooting your target

  • Can be used to bridge significant gaps, especially if used while mounted.

  • Can be used to reduce your fall distance (AKA save you from fall damage), extremely useful when flying mounts are unavailable.

  • Can be used as a counter to knockback effects. As far as I know, Blink is the only other ability that allows this.

I encourage any other Rocket Jump fans to add their own uses in reply!

P.S. I encourage always jumping before using this, as it increases your distance significantly.

On my Goblin mage, I created a macro that I call "SuperBlink". This macro will cast Blink, but if you hit the button a second time within 15 seconds (the cooldown of Blink), it will cast Rocket Jump instead. Great for when you need some serious distance quickly.

75 yards, read the spell effect

Not 75 yard, the measurement in knock back or jump in the effect box is different. Base on Thunderstorm effect, 20 yards=value 60, so the racial in theory should provide 25 yard forward jump. ONLY APPLY IN FLAT TERRAN.

The distance will be varied base on you jumping uphill or downhill, using the uphill probably just waste one GCD of yours, not to mention the CD, but downhill is will extent the distance

Also based on observation of some beta video (totalbiscuit's Goblin leveling), this racial can also prevent fall damage if activate before impact.

That would take quite a bit of camera control seeing as the racial sends you forward and disengage sends you backwards...if you weren't careful you'd just end up right back where you were with two things on CD.

Deathbang+10via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

This ability is incredibly useful for Death Knights, as DKs have no way of closing ground between them and their opponent (excluding Death Grip, which as a taunt is not so useful in PvE if you aren't tanking). However, this ability allows rapid movement towards the enemy, and if your opponent is on lower ground than you it's possible to travel even farther! The downside: it doesn't work so well uphill.

Tip: Jump before using this ability and click the button mid air to travel farther.

ocelot113+10via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

I thought you'd be able to jump off cliffs and be able to use at the bottom (like blink), which you can but it's damn risky because of the second or so delay on the use. Most of the time you either go crashing into the ground boots ablaze and all or you just burst while still too high and fall to your death. Anyone know when/if Blizz plans on fixing the timing issue? I think the cd is a bit long for just in essence a blink. CD should be cut in half (1 min) imo.

10171+9via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

Just tested, it does indeed reset your falling distance when used, like Mage's Blink. Unlike Blink, Rocket Jump still moves you forward while in the air. Edit: In fact, it seems more effective while on air. You should jump before using it.

Baelof+8via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

While this ability expresses that "Other effects which slow the rate of falling cannot be used within 10 sec after using this ability."
this only applies in zones where flying is not allowed
If you have the relevant flying credentials and enough time between the Global Cooldown, you can use slow fall abilities after Rocket Jumping.

Toroq+7via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

As of patch 4.3 this ability is now locking out my heroic leap ability in addition to slow fall effects.
Not sure if this is intended or not, but there's no mention of it in the patch notes.

There's always the possibility that this was changed because heroic leap can be used as a "safe fall" if timed correctly.

Clinoclase+7via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

For some reason the explosion animation has been replaced by dust and dirt particles. Hopefully it's fixed soon, but considering how many times graphics in this game have been unintentionally overwritten but not fixed my hopes aren't high. Please consider filing a bug report if you notice this too.

192595+6via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

what I was wondering about this rocket jump...

if you fall off a cliff or something high enough you would take damage and you use this ability shortly before you hit the ground, would this avoid the fall damage?

could anyone on beta check this? :X

496053+5via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

I'm assuming this is coded almost exactly like blink meaning if used well timed it would in fact save you, but if used wrong you'd just fly right back up in the air. That is just my assumption though, don't quote me on that.

Filipse+5via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

This racial is extremely usefull in many cases...

  • [In Arathi basin you can jump dirrectly into the river beneath the Blacksmith from the lumbermill if used well enough

  • [Melee classes can benefit from this as an additonal charge rogues/ench shamans/warriors
  • [
  • Allows you to cross gaps normaly not possible (one example being skipping half of Ragefire Chasm)

  • If timed or if you're a rogue you can jump abnormal distances without taking overly heavy-damage

  • [Gives a nice speedboost downhillwards

  • If used properly gives hunter/mage/lock an additional oppertunity to kite their foes

Zagga+4via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

Incredibly useful ability! I didn't think it would be that useful at first but I find I use it all the time (lvl 46 goblin mage).

Best way to use it:
- jump before hitting it, learn to hit it so the Rocket jump starts at the highest point of your jump.
- Don't use it if there is an upward hill before you
- Using it from a downward hill/stairs will make you go much much further, but be careful of fall damage.

Some of the uses:
- Before 20: Move just a little bit quicker
- Before 60 (flying mount): Cross gaps easier, other then blink this ability will not stop before a gap.
- Negate fall damage
- Extra GTFO button when blink is on cooldown (for me)

And combinations of course, like:
- jump from the flight master/zeppeling terrain in org quite far into the valley of strength
- Steep hill with some rocks at the bottom and then water where you want to go? (*cough* 1000 needles), no problemo
- Reach the crossroads by jumping of the orgrimmar-thunderbluff seppeling in style
- Jump to Thaddius' platform! (Haven't used it for that of course, but I fell down there quite often:( )

Barhah+4via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

I am saddened to hear this doesn't work with slow fall (Nitro boosts + parachute took my engineer all the way across Orgrimmar, when used from up top) However, I can still get pretty good distance with this on my mage, and I use this combo all over the place: jump off with a mount, use rocket boots at the apex, blink just before smashing into the ground. Blinking up hills and rocket jumping off was a nice time-saver, too bad you only have four levels of travelblink before you get your mount now...

760473+4via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

Very handy racial but it's a shame that it doesn't work with slow fall and parachute cloak (after using rocket jump, the slowfall and parachute cloak abilities are grayed out and cannot be used). The fact that it also shares a cooldown with Rocket Barrage is another shame, as it makes Rocket Barrage feel quite useless in comparison to the utility of rocket jump; why waste the CD on barrage when you can do something infinitely more useful with jump.

Rocket jump can be used in arenas and any other PVP environment. The effect is very much like a hunter's disengage, but reversed (propels you forward instead of backward). The range of the jump is variable; you do not stop until you have landed on ground. For example, if you rocket jump down a hill, you will continue moving down the entirety of the hill until you have landed. Alternatively, if you rocket jump up toward a hill, you will prematurely land and thus move less of a distance.

You can see there are some obvious balance issues with Rocket Jump on Battleground maps like Twin Peaks. A goblin flag carrier can rocket jump toward the Horde base and cover much, much more distance because the map is slanted downhill toward the Horde base.

716975+3via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)
Does this cause you to drop the flag in warsong?

Nope - my lowbie Shaman and Druid regularly rocket jump off the top of the cliff next to the ramp whilst carrying the flag, and the they usually end up landing just past the Alliance beserker hut. Just don't do it when your health is low (unless there's a healer waiting), as the landing usually takes off around a third of your health.
