Garrison Invasion Bosses
There are six possible garrison bosses that can be summoned. They are summoned by the items below, and are each associated with a specific type of invasion:

• [item=122473] summons [npc=91012], and can be obtained during a Shadow Council invasion
• 
  
• [item=122475] summons [npc=90802], and can be obtained during a Shadowmoon invasion

Below I've compiled some information on these Garrison Invasion Bosses:

• 
  
• The items that summon these bosses can be received by successfully completing a garrison invasion, with ANY rating achieved (bronze, silver, gold or platinum).
• 
  
• The items can be obtained on your second, third, fourth etc. invasion in a week even if you have already completed an invasion that week and won all of the reward bags.
• 
  
• The person that has the summoning item must summon the boss from a Level 3 garrison, but it doesn't have to be their own. Anyone in the group leader's raid group and in that person's garrison can engage the boss.
• 
  
• The bosses are recommended to be tackled by 10-40 players, and they scale in health and abilities. In general, though, the more people that you have, the more room you have for error.
• 
  
• Once used, the summoning items are consumed and cannot be used again (even if you wipe!)
• 
  
  • 
    
  • The bosses have personal loot tables, and drop a guaranteed 75 [currency=824] and 75 [currency=823], along with a chance to drop 645 or 660 epic gear, Arcane Crystal trading post parts, and any of the 4 invasion mounts ([item=116779], [item=116673], [item=116786] or [item=116663]).

    • Note that you can obtain two mounts from a single boss - they have independent drop chances!
    • 
      
    • Although a certain mount may have dropped for you in the past, it may still drop again in the future.
    • 
      
  • 
    
  • The gear that drops can be Warforged, have a socket, be Indestructible (no repairs required ever), or have a tertiary stat (Leech, Speed or Avoidance).
  • 
    
  • You can only loot ONE garrison boss per week/raid lockout.
    
    • 
      
    • This restriction is per toon - you can kill another garrison boss in the same lockout on an alt!
    • 
      
    • Once you've killed a garrison invasion boss, "Garrison Raid Defense" will appear in your list of lockouts (Press "O", then click Raid Info at the top right of your Raid tab).

  • 
    
  • Killing all of the different raid bosses grants the achievement Master and Commander. Only the kill is required (even if someone else has summoned them).
    
    • 
      
    • This achievement is NOT account-wide! Therefore, while you can kill these bosses on multiple toons for chances at loot, kill credit for all 6 needs to be on a single character for the achievement.

  Completing Master and Commander
  
  There are three ways you can gun for Master and Commander - finding all six bosses can be a real challenge!

  2. Trigger invasions for boss items
     By spawning invasions, you can complete them and increase the chances of getting the specific boss item you need. To spawn specific types of invasions, there are certain quests/activities you need to complete.
     Essentially, activities that increase your "threat" or "aggro" with a certain group (e.g. Botani, Iron Horde, Ogre, etc.) will cause an invasion to spawn. It takes a certain amount of "threat" to spawn one, and this can vary from attempt to attempt.
     
     Activities that increase your "threat" with various groups include:
     
     • 
       
     • Killing mobs associated with that group.
     • 
       
     • Dailies at your "War Planning Map" that relate to specific groups (e.g. Assault on Lost Veil Anzu). This is in your garrison main building, in front of Shadow Hunter Ukambe (H)/[npc=81152] (A) (see the below chart for the various dailies and associated groups).
     • 
       
     • Missives, available for 200 [currency=824] that are associated with specific groups (e.g. [item=122401]). These are available from [npc=79774] (H)/[npc=78564] (A), just outside your main garrison building. These can be purchased and completed over and over, unlimited times per day.

     Note that each kill on a member of a specific group increases your threat a little, but turning in a daily/missive quest will increase your threat a lot. As such, doing both (for example, picking up a missive, completing it with kills, then turning it in) will have the best chance of triggering an invasion.
     
     TIP - You can pick up the daily at your War Planning Map, and also pick up the equivalent missive and complete BOTH at the same time.
     You can have multiple missives of the same type in your bags, but you cannot complete more than one of the same missive at one time (have to turn in one, then use the next).

     • Complete invasions from group finder for boss items
       Rather than trying to trigger your own invasions, you can use the group finder to track down other people who list for garrison invasions. By doing a high volume of the appropriate invasions, you can increase the chance of the boss item dropping. Use the above chart to target specific invasions.
       
       One asset in doing this is the add-on "Server Hop".
       Open the add-on with /serverhop. To make a custom search, click the star at the bottom right corner, then click "Add". You can copy and paste any of the following keywords groups to search for the invasions you need! Once completed, click the name of your custom search to start scanning.
       
       To search specifically for garrison invasions, you can use any (or all) the following search criteria:

     • Search for garrison invasion bosses from group finder
       
       The final way to gun for Master and Commander is to search the group finder specifically for the bosses you need, rather than invasions. This may take some time, as the summoning items tend to be uncommon, and fewer people do invasions/invasion bosses in the latter part of the expansion.
       
       Once again, using the add-on "Server Hop" is a huge help, although you can also manually search groups (usually in the "Custom" category) for the bosses you need.
       
       To search specifically for garrison invasions, you can use any (or all) the following search criteria:

Made over 150 Invasions with my toons and didn't get a single item to summon a Boss.

The drop rate seems to be very low. Very frustrating.

Look for a premade or :

To spawn an invasion farm an apexis assault daily quest OR buy a missive for 200Gress ( Sergeant Crowler) if you get lucky you might get an item to spawn a boss
