A Bird in Hand

A Bird in Hand is a quest for level 30-35 in Mount Hyjal. It is step 61 of 118 in the Mount Hyjal storyline. The quest's turn-in marker is in Mount Hyjal at 42.2, 45.5. It rewards 3 reward items, 1 reputation reward, 4,800 experience and money.

Description

It's time to get to the bottom of this. We need to interrogate the matron of these beasts, Marion Wormwing. We'll capture her alive. Here's the plan:

The harpies communicate across the ridge using a series of signal fires. If we extinguish one, Marion is sure to come investigate.

You fight her as a distraction while I sneak up behind and grab her. I'll leave the questioning to you. Let's get her, <name>!

While capturing,

Thisalee Crow says: Gotcha Chickenlips! You'd best get talky, or I'll get stabby.

"Normal" way you get these: (questioned by you, answered by Marion Wormwing)

  • Why are you stealing eggs?
She asked for eggs. Eggs for her fiery hatchery in another realm.

And one egg... a special egg... she sought more than any other.

  • Who? Who are you giving the eggs to?
She of the skies, but also of darkness. Brood of the Earth-Warder. Invincible!

  • Brood of the Earth-Warder... you answer to a black dragon? Give me a name!
Foolish <race>! There is a new order. Aviana is dead. DEAD! And never coming back.

Tell that to the druids in the trees.

Sethria will soon be the master of the skies, and she has made sure Aviana will never be reborn. The egg is hers.

    You are too late.

Then you choose to

  • <Order Thisalee to kill the harpy.>
Thisalee Crow says: It's your call, <name>. Marion brought this on herself when she attacked our matron's sacred shrine.

or

  • <Ask Thisalee to release the harpy.>
Thisalee Crow says: You're a better person than I, <name>. But I suppose the harpies are just pawns here.

----------------------------

If you like the "Soften" way, here is a list of Marion and Thisalee's responses :p
Marion Wormwing:

<Marion squaks loudly and glares at you.>

You'll get nothing from me, <race>!

Your cities will fall, <race>. You'll perish in the darkness of the new regime!

Do what you will. My new masters will carve my name into your flesh before they execute you.

Thisalee Crow:

We don't need to tell Omnuron about this.

There's more where that came from, Marion!

Brutal!

I'm not sure that's strictly necessary.

Hey, you don't waste any time.

Easy, friend. We still need the info.

Wait, was I supposed to be the good cop?

Where this quest fits

Before this quest

Taken from the storyline's own step order.

  • Scrambling for EggsMount Hyjal · Level 30-35

There's a pattern to these Wormwing attacks. While groups make a showy assault on the shrine itself, others swoop into the nearby nests and make off with eggs from all the flying creatures of Hyjal. These animals are under our protection.

After this quest

Taken from the storyline's own step order.

  • A Prayer and a WingMount Hyjal · Level 30-35

A winged visage? Could it be...? <name>, there's no time to waste. You may have been speaking to Aviana herself, trying to return to us. I'll need something from Aviana's past to reach out to her.
