TheWoWDBIn addition to the armor and balloon toy, completing this quest will also max out reputation with Shang Xi's Academy, a rep from the pandaren starting zone that has infamously been impossible to get Exalted with since MoP released.
Also, after turning in this quest and leaving the island you can return using a hot air balloon at the pandaren camps in SW/Org. And so can your non-pandaren characters!

I sincerely doubt that any of the developers responsible for this event saw my reddit post in which I mentioned that it would be nice if we could finally fullfill incomplete reputation bar, but hey, at least we think alike and it's cool that we finally have exalted, lol.
For anyone wondering, it seems only necessary to do this on 1 faction. I did alliance, but my horde panda has the red set available. The faction-specific quests also seemed to cross-complete
