If you die in the middle of this, you might have to drop it and get it again. I was unable to get back to the surface until I did so.

why is this so hard? as a new 70 disc priest, and respeced to shadow to do more damange - this stuff sucks. Currently on my 3rd death - late into the expansion any new player would give up. Death knight came and rescued me, but with a game short on healers, Blizzard needs to do better at intro quests. I like a challenge, but this was stupid.
As of 11.0.5, the door out of the Underbelly will still bug out on you if you die. However, if you can get out of Dalaran via hearthstone/other teleport, and can get back to talk to the Khadgar in the Portrait Room, you do not have to drop the quest if you're at the final stage (speak to Khadgar). It will port you directly beside the version of Khadgar you need.
Source: I played portal jockey for my dad after he got stuck at the clickable but not run through-able door that happens when you die. He proceeded to make it back to where he needed.

Description
Best if we split up here. I'll guide everyone to safety and see about getting them evacuated. In the meantime, you should search for Khadgar. I'm sure he could use your aid as well. You'll find another exit further ahead that should lead back to the surface.
Where to go
Pins are the quest’s own POI points from the current retail client, projected onto the in-game zone map. The game marks one blob as the quest’s turn-in; the rest are objective areas. Points that fall outside a map’s window are dropped rather than guessed at.
