Dread Head Redemption

Dread Head Redemption is a Horde-only quest for level 7-30 in Ashenvale. It is step 23 of 42 in the Ashenvale, Horde storyline. The quest's turn-in marker is in Orgrimmar at 49.2, 72.2. It rewards 3 reward items and 5,150 experience. Completing it counts toward 1 achievement.

Description

I sense that Durak is more than he seems. Demonic power is dangerous and it is easy to fall to its corruption - even for a trained warlock.

I do not trust him, <name>.

Find this Durak and tell him that the Horde will have nothing to do with him.

So...

Just sayin', really awkward doing this quest chain as a Warlock.

"The demons want nothing more than for us to become reliant on their foul magics." -- Well, crap.

"And I smell its [a demon's] taint on you as well, <class>...." -- Well, there's one right next to me.

"Listen... Before you say anything, I KNOW we're not to meddle with demonic energies...." -- Oops.

"There is strong prejudice against the use of demonic magics. Unjustified, but real nonetheless. For this reason, I will transform you into an imp for the duration of the mission to prevent you from being identified." -- Hey! I can be the same as my pet now!

"Did you feel it, <name>!

The raw fel power seething through your being?" -- Well, I figure, since I cast that kind of thing all the time...

Just try not to chuckle when you're doing this chain on a lock.

Direct chain of quests to this one:

Find Gorat!
Final Report
To Dinah, at Once!
Gorat's Vengeance
Got Wood? (Remember to talk to Kadrak after getting the quest from Truun)
Management Material (Look out for the level 24 stealthed spiders)
Needs a Little Lubrication
Crisis at Splintertree
To the Rescue!
Blood of the Weak (You only need to hand it in to Durak to unlock the next step. You don't need to accept Pierce Their Heart!. Look for the '!' over the demolisher/catapult when you get back outside)
Playing With Felfire*
Tell No One!
Dirty Deeds
Rain of Destruction (also rewards blue items. Again ignore the quest Durak is offering when you turn it in, and head outside to Draaka.)
All Apologies
Dread Head Redemption

*If you're doing this chain for twink gear, then make sure to pick up Diabolical Plans, which drops from the mobs in the same area as the felfire. The next quest in that chain, Never Again!, rewards BiS rings for most classes @19/20. The best time to do that quest is just after you've picked up All Apologies (so you can hearthstone to Orgrimmar once you've got the 2 weapons, talk to Hellscream, then fly back to get Durak's head).

Also, you may as well pick up Destroy the Legion from Valusha at the same time as Playing With Felfire, for a bit more gold, as you'll be killing the demons anyway.

As of patch 6.0.2 it looks like the tracking on this quest has a minor bug. The standard map pins to show both the location of Durak to "persuade" him and the turn-in do not show up on the map or mini-map. Showing Durak's location (in the mine, if you need the reminder) isn't a big deal, but the quest text doesn't specify to return to Vol'jin for turn-in. Since there's no stated destination, and no map pin for where to turn in the quest, it could get a bit confusing for newer folks.

So, moral of the story:

Vol'jin (Org) --> Durak (Splintertree) --> Vol'jin --> Profit.

Edit: Sorry, looks like Vigg already posted a note on this.

  • All ApologiesAshenvale · Level 7-30

This could be the end of me... Perhaps my actions were not thought out as well as they should have been... The good news is that we pushed back an attack that would have otherwise meant the end of Splintertree. Let us pray that Saurfang sees it that way.

After this quest

  • Keep the Fires BurningAshenvale · Level 7-30

This is no small task, <race>! We have more ships arriving, and without the lighthouse they'll be lost - or worse! You are hereby charged with keeping its fire lit. Collect the blubber from the hydras in these waters, then bring it to the forge here to melt it into oil.
