Drowned Mana

This information is current as of July 22/16 on the Beta.

Below is a mini-guide on [item=138777] - a combination of compiled information and research in the Beta.

[npc=108825]

[npc=108825] is a new Fishing-related NPC located on a floating island (Margoss' Retreat) around [zone=7502]. This island has a pool of water on it from which [item=138777] can be fished up.

As a "Friend" NPC, there is an associated faction and reputation associated with Margoss - [faction=1975] (similar to [faction=1358] or the Tillers NPCs).

Getting to Margoss' Retreat

The island on which [npc=108825] can be found is just North of [zone=7502]. Note that this small island isn't shown on the map of [zone=7502] - it is outside of the bounds of the in-game map (therefore coordinates are not helpful!)

There are a number of ways to get to the island:

   Once flying is unlocked in Legion, this will be an easy way to get to the island.

4. [item=138448]
   [item=138448] is a consumable item that teleports you to Margoss' Retreat. It can be fished up in the Dalaran Underbelly from the Swirling Whorl pools around the Black Market Auction house - [69,21] in the Underbelly.
   These items are consumed when used - so to use this method again you have to fish up another.

6. Manually Reaching the Island
   It is possible to get to the island using unconventional means.
   First, you must jump down from Krasus landing to the left, onto the grassy ledge that surrounds [zone=7502]. Follow this ledge counterclockwise around the city edge until you see the island in the distance (distinctive due to the pool in the middle).
   You'll see some trees blocking your vision, through which you can jump down onto a lower second tier grassy ledge. The point that you should be using to jump to the island is at [29.4, 6.6].
   Using a ground mount and jumping off the edge for momentum, you can get to the island using any ability that gives you some distance in the air. This can include any of the following:
   
   • 
     
   • As a [class=12 domain=legion], you can use Glide.
   • 
     
   • As a Goblin [class=7], you can use Rocket Jump (Goblin Racial) followed by [spell=192063] (Talent).
   • 
     
   • As an Engineer, you can use a cloak with Goblin Glider attached.
   • 
     
   • Any race/class can use Goblin Glider Kit (crafted by Engineers).
   •

You can get back to [zone=7502] by speaking to [npc=108825] - he will teleport you back on request.

Obtaining [item=138777]

[item=138777] has a two-fold purpose:

• 
  
• Can be turned in to [npc=108825] to obtain reputation with him.
• 
  
• Can be used as a currency for a number of items he sells.
• 
  

Note that any [item=138777] spent on items from [npc=108825] will not grant any reputation. Conversely, any [item=138777] turned in for reputation is consumed and cannot be used to buy merchandise.

[item=138777] can ONLY be fished up from the pool on Margoss' Retreat.

• A Fishing skill of 1 is sufficient to catch [item=138777].
• 
  
• Fishing skill does not appear to appreciably affect [item=138777] catch rate (see below).
• 
  
• You can catch up to 2 [item=138777] per cast.
• 
  
• Other than [item=138777], only trash fish are caught on this island (Silver Mackerel and Big Fountain Goldfish).
• 
  
• [item=138777] can be turned in 1 at a time for 50 reputation or 10 at a time for 500 reputation.
• 
  
• [item=138777] is Unique (100) - as such you want to turn-in or spend it when you reach that mark.
• 
  
• Level 110 is NOT required to fish up [item=138777]. Testing with level 100+ characters has been successful; it is unknown whether even lower level characters can do so.

[item=141975]

[item=141975] is an item you can rarely fish up on Margoss' Retreat (roughly 1 in every 100 casts). Using it will summon [npc=113378], an Elemental that will attack you, that you must kill.

• [npc=113378] scales in health and level (like all Legion mobs). It is not difficult to kill him.
• 
  
• Aquaos drops no loot, but killing him infuses the pool on the island with mana, increasing the catch rate of [item=138777] to 100% while it is active for a short time! This state is indicated by blue mana motes rising from the surface of the water.
• 
  
• This "mana infusion" state lasts 2-3 minutes from testing.
• 
  
• [item=141975] is Unique - as such, it is advisable to use it as soon as you catch one, to avoid not being able to loot any more you may catch.
• 
  
• While the buff is up, not only is [item=138777] catch rate 100%, but you will somtimes catch various Legion (non-trash) fish, such as Stormray and Highmountain Salmon.

Overall this is a fairly low sample size; however, based on the information, it appears that Fishing skill has little to no effect on [item=138777] catch rate. Further testing is needed to see if maxed fishing will yield different results.

Reputation with [faction=1975]

Reputation with [faction=1975] will allow you to purchase the various items he has for sale - including a pet and a mount!

There is a one-time quest (Drowned Mana) that you can complete by fishing up and turning in 1 [item=138777] for 250 reputation. Thereafter, the only way to obtain further reputation is to turn in [item=138777] for 50 reputation per mana.

IMPORTANT NOTE: It appears that the quest Drowned Mana consumes ALL [item=138777] in your bags, not just the 1 required for completion! Therefore, it's best to fish up the 1 you need for the quest and turn it in before stockpiling more.

There are 5 levels of reputation before Best Friend, which is the maximum reputation. Each of these levels has 8400 reputation.

To improve the rate of reputation gain, keep in mind the following buffs (note that some of the following buffs stack):

Beware! Turning in this quest will remove ALL [item=138777] you have in your bags even though he only asks for one. Make sure to complete the quest as soon as you fish one up, if you keep fishing and turn it in later you will lose all of them.

Update! This issue has now been resolved.

I cannot do this quest for the life of me. Every time I click on my bobber, I get 'Your fish got away!' This happened for at least an hour. Thought I was just SUPER unlucky. Figured maybe since I'm fishing level 1, I'll go elsewhere, catch some fish and come back. Fished up to level 5, came back and same thing. I've relogged, restarted the client, to no avail. I've looked everywhere online and can't find anything about a bug or how to fix this.
Help. :(
