TheWoWDBQuest has been fixed to where you can start the Awakening event.
However unlike what the quest text implies, both parts dropped for me in Awakening the Machine, from waves 3 and 4.

Quest says you have to loot the ring from "snuffling" and the Cog from Awakening the machine, but I received both items from Awakening the Machine, wave 3 and 4. I had my weekly done already so I don't know if it matters.

If you've already done your weekly for the Awakening the Machine event, after you get your Awakened Cog and Ringing Gemstone (typically within the first five waves) for this quest, you should exit the event at the first five-wave breakpoint since you've successfully completed the quest. Finishing the event will provide no additional benefit and is purely a waste of time.

Description
What's this? A tinderbox? I've heard tell of these Arathi contraptions, but have never held one in my hands. It's smaller than I would have thought... Upgraded, you say? Ha! We can do that. The next time we're Awakening the Machine, keep an eye out for an Awakened Cog and Ringing Gemstone.
