If you went into the right side of the cave like me, you'll end up at a big green wall of blockage. You will get a disguise later in the quest chain to open this barrier where you drink a potion, step on the little circle platform and then it will open it. The disguise will also make you appear friendly to the mobs in the cave, so use it liberally. You have to go to 48,78, down into the cellar and close the 4 portals, then you can proceed further into the quest chain to get the disguise.

What to do
Description
It seems not all the protections I put in place have been defeated. The Legion isn't able to open portals inside or near the tower... at least, not yet. They appear to be bringing reinforcements in through the catacombs running beneath Deadwind Pass. Disable them and you just might buy us the time we need to drive them out of Karazhan.
Where to go
Pins are the quest’s own POI points from the current retail client, projected onto the in-game zone map. The game marks one blob as the quest’s turn-in; the rest are objective areas. Points that fall outside a map’s window are dropped rather than guessed at.

Where this quest fits
After this quest
Taken from the storyline's own step order.
- Holding the Lines
Karazhan sits upon a confluence of ley lines. It's why this location was chosen for the tower in the first place... a fact that has not escaped the Legion's notice. If the demons are tapping into these lines of power, they must need their energy for something particularly menacing.
