Best way to reach him is to swim up the Thondroril River or take the path that follows the river which starts near 13.8,60.9.
Alternatively, you can go through the Terrorweb Tunnel if you happen to be in the north-western part of EPL, but that will make you go through the spiders you'll have to kill a few minutes later for the first quest Gidwin gives you.
I love this quest chain so much that I've done it on every character of mine: thus far a blood elf, human, and a worgen - all males. As I began to go for number four, I noticed something interesting.
When I started the quest with my female worgen, when I found Gidwin he asked "Fiona, is that you?" instead of asking for Tarenar like with my other characters. Sounds like his question changes depending on what gender your character is.

What to do
Description
I love my boys, don't get me wrong. But I TOLD them that I needed FIVE MINUTES to water and brush the horses, and what did they do? They made a stupid bet with each other and ran off! I should have known better... this always happens. Gidwin's the short one. He headed north, along the river. If you're headed that direction, would you tell him to come back? We've got to get to Light's Hope Chapel, and I'm not against leaving without him.
