If you destroy the quest item you might be confused as there are TWO Elixir of Shadows (well, not really but you need to read the tooltips carefully). The item you get from this quest the icon has a picture of a pinkish background, with a black box and gold top ... and the tooltip reads...

"Elixir of Shadows"

Use: "Drink near Ishaals hut in the Shadowglade to peer into the shadow realm"

There is ANOTHER item with a similar name called

"Elixir of Shadow Sight" - (icon is a dark bottle, gold cap)
"Drink this potion near the shrines to Terokk in Spires of Arak to be granted a glimpse into the Shadow Realm"

I somehow lost my Quest item and ran around trying to drink the potion.

I abandoned the Quest, it says "Abandon Quest and Destroy Elixir of Shadows"? and I said YES. It did NOT delete my Elixir of Shadow Potions! It only deleted the quest item... in my case, I did not have the quest item.

I re-acquired the quest, went back to the hut, and finished the rest quite easily!
As a tip, drink the potion outside the hut not inside. :)

Description

Talonpriests live among us in secret, guarding the rites of the Talon King's return. The Adherent proclamation you acquired in Skettis revealed two of them living in the Shadowglade to the north. Orcs have moved into the region, and the Adherent's beam weapon left Veil Akraz a smoking crater. As you can see, my people are beset by enemies on all sides. Talonpriest Ishaal survived and is in hiding. Drink this elixir near his hut to peer into the shadows and make contact with him.
