A small tag has been lovingly tied around the base of the egg. It reads "Ikky.">

Ikky is a battle pet learned by doing a short quest chain in the Spires of Arak zone.
First you need to have completed The Kaliri Whisperer. When you turn that in, these become available:
Ikky's Egg - Help Ikky hatch from his egg
Baby Bird - Gather grubs to feed IkkyAfter this quest Ikky flies away! ... thankfully the story isn't done.
Return to Veil Terokk and you will find [npc=85320] waiting for you with the final step:Ikky - Ikky becomes your friend (and battle pet - [npc=86447])
Edit: Added a bit more detail.
The egg doesn't actually offer a quest unless you've done The Kaliri Whisperer, which ends with Skizzik, who is dead nearby. Once you've turned in The Kaliri Whisperer, Ikky's Egg becomes active.

Those orcs got hold of Ishaal's orb, did they? That would explain the dangerous-looking fellow who crossed into this realm shortly before you. Not everyone handles the transition as... gracefully as you did. The oaf is still grappling with his own mind, stumbling about and muttering nonsense.

Many arakkoa died in Veil Akraz. From the outside, all seems still. Empty. But in this place between worlds, death never goes unnoticed. Stray life essence seeps through from the other side; a feast for the beings who prowl here.
