TheWoWDBSo, the quest marker initially points to a point OUTSIDE the cave, at the entrance. This is not where you are meant to stop. Go inside, past the wall. (If you were like me, and didn't read the text on your water drop buff, it says it allows you to bypass the wall.)
Unlike most modern WoW quests, the NPC doesn't make the short jog to the location--instead she vanishes, reappearing deeper inside the cave. It says to protect her, so I thought this was an escort quest and kept looking for her. But you have to fight your way down, and meet her at the bottom.
TL;DR, you meet the NPC again in the depths of the cave; you don't need to stop and wait/escort her from outside. Just go in and get fighting!

Description
In the deepest recesses of the Emberslate Cavern, the Primalists erected a fiery portal from which they unleash elementals. I can seal it, but my actions will draw the ire of whatever is on the other side. Including the revenant Magmaticus the Primalists have been aiding. I will need your protection if we are to stop them.

1. Chaos and Commotion - Quest start from [npc=189842] /way #2112 56.09 40.24, Teleport to bottom location and speak with [npc=196878] then press on [object=381692] 60.97 40.55 then speak with [npc=196938] after that move to exit of bulding and pick up [object=381702] [item=200273] wait in that location.
2. Follow the Clues - Go to 42.72 81.91
3A. Detonation Locations - Collect Misty Vale maps: [item=200461], [item=200462] and [item=200463]. Location /way 43.46 81.91 on post /way 43.55 81.10 on tree /way 44.29 80.88 in tent on crate
3B. Rebels With a Cause - Kill 10 rebels and Primalists.
3C. Ruin the Runestones - This Quest You can pick up from [npc=196464] /way 43.55 81.00, Destroy 2 caches of incendiary runestones: /way 44.37 81.42 /way 44.26 80.43
6. Maldra's in Hot Water - Slay [npc=196457] /way 42.81 80.14
7. Chasing Waterfalls - Collect 35 [item=200087] from elementals.
