A Chilling Ascent

A Chilling Ascent starts with [item=208137].

Doing the quest

1. Travel to the Ancient Waygate at Vakthros. (Blue Dragonflight facility).
   
   • It's located on top of the tallest tower in the area.
   • 
     
   • [skip] Don't bother equipping the [item=206696]. The Cogs-Bolts coordinate system isn't needed in this quest.

3. Face North and move to the edge of the platform. Look down. There is an active pylon spewing blue energy/magic below you.

5. Fly down to the pylon. There is a stone tablet at the base. You'll find [npc=208640] there and the corpses of some Expedition Workers.

7. [skip] Don't bother searching for the door and console mentioned in [item=208137]. There is a door at ground level hidden by spiky icicles. It could be the entrance to a tunnel connecting to the Waygate tower, but it's sealed.

9. Interact with [npc=208640].
   

   [npc=208640] says,
   My employer was researching an ancient legend and learned that these pillars are rumored to contain lost knowledge.
   Perhaps that torch of yours can reveal what it holds.
   ([npc=208640] doesn't mention the corpses of Expedition Workers around the pylon.)

11. The [item=208092] will automatically ignite if it's on an action bar. When you move near the stone tablet, fire will stream from the torch to a diamond shape embedded in the pylon. The flame activates the tablet.

13. Inspect the tablet. You'll be asked to trace the writing on the tablet using charcoal. Just click. That's done and you receive A Knowledgeable Descent.

15. Return to the Rotten Ram Inn in Valdrakken and hand in the quest to [npc=207696].
    

    [npc=207696] says,
    You found someone trapped up there and the others were dead? Good thing you had that torch!
    I don't recognize this text. I'll show it to Preservationist Kathos. Hopefully whatever it says will help up figure out what this group is after.
