TheWoWDBJust turned in three dailies to Speaker Utia and got no credit for this quest. I finally figured out that none of the dailies from the "hub" work towards this quest. Find the dailies that grant experience to your bodyguard as a quest reward.

For anyone having the same issue as me where you have completed Daily quests but they do not register as complete, below is my response from a GM:
The quest "Becoming a Friend"/"A Worthy Ally" for Horde/Alliance respectively can be a bit confusing as to what daily quest counts towards the progress that you are required to do. I think we could have done a better job in signifying which dailies count for the progress, however a small sample of the quests that do count is below:

These are flagged as Combat Ally quests, and when completed, will count towards progress on "Becoming a Friend"/"A Worthy Ally".
I've gone around doing all quests in the entire zone, explored everything, flight paths, etc. Quest is at 2/3.
Meanwhile people are progressing the story.
I don't care whether they could do a better job in signifying which dailies count towards it. Doing -everything available in the entire zone- should have been enough to progress such a simple quest. So I am stuck skipping a day before I can get to the cool story parts. Frustrating. Sad design.

Some of our bravest ankoan have volunteered to join you on your expedition. You will find each have their own special interests and they will mark your map with different opportunities every day. Use the Deepflame Campfire when you are ready. Choose a noble ally to join you, and explore what remains of Nazjatar. Choose wisely! You may only select one friend per day.
