Kill demons close to the Demon Hunter (golden glowy Q npc that you need to free as hopefully shown in screenshot) and then use [item=122100]. Seems you can actually just "reuse" one Demon Hunter as well, you don't have to run around to all locations.
Keep in mind that you need to be exactly in the quest area, not .27 micometers outside or you will get the "wrong zone" error, even if your target is smack in the middle of the zone. "Wrong Zone" in this case means "wrong designated target area," because you haven't ported into another zone. Well, maybe the Twilight Zone, but that doesn't count.
Any class with an AoE needs to be aware that you're in a rich target environment (some of whom you can't see at first), so if you use Arcane Explosion (for example) to trigger Arcane missiles, you'll meet lots of new people very quickly, none of whom is bringing the Welcome Wagon. If you're a squishy, it's all that much more fun. Bring lots of bandages.
Sometimes the Soul Gem doesn't work, either because you picked the wrong target or because....well, just because. But you'll be able to make it work most of the time (80% in my case). Loot the corpses before using the gem or you won't be able to afterwards but these mobs drop nothing anyway, so don't worry about it. It's actually better not to loot the corpses in case you need to flee from all your new friends, then come back later. 30 seconds later: that's about all the time you've got.

What to do
Description
I need to extract information about the Burning Legion from these foul creatures. But living, the demons are almost impossible to break. However, like you, I wield a powerful artifact -- the Scythe of Souls. Take one of my soul gems. If you place it next to a demon's corpse, it will rip the 'soul' out. Then, we will see if the scythe can get them to talk.
Where to go
Pins are the quest’s own POI points from the current retail client, projected onto the in-game zone map. The game marks one blob as the quest’s turn-in; the rest are objective areas. Points that fall outside a map’s window are dropped rather than guessed at.

Before this quest
Taken from the storyline's own step order.
- Into the Fray
The Burning Legion has beaten us here, but so too have the Illidari. It looks like the demon hunters are holding their own, but just barely. Come, let's put that weapon of yours to use. I'll figure out our next move while you crush the Legion.
After this quest
Taken from the storyline's own step order.
- Reignite the Wards
The demons are weakening my defenses. They must be far more powerful than what we've faced before. Will you help me to reignite the wards to keep the Legion from overrunning our position here?
