Very annoying quest. You drop the item (and it resets position) if you take damage (even fall damage) or cast a spell while holding it. The area is filled with mobs, and several high hp mobs that take a long time to kill. Not just any cliff is good enough either -- you need to be at the edge of the map.

How I did it in 3 minutes:
2 are right near the northern Ancient Translocator platform (the teleporter which gets you on the flying island) -> drop-off directly from the teleporter's platform
2 are on the coast(hill) to the left of the Translocator -> drop-off on the cliff's edge
Toss pieces at /way 43.91, 21.61

What to do
Description
Zereth Mortis is sacred. Rifts should not form here. Something creates them. The metal you found has Maw magic. Devourers use it to make rifts. This is how they skirt our protections. Mawsteel shards are strewn across the area. Take these shards. Throw them off our cliffs. Make sure devourers do not use them to create rifts.
Where to go
Pins are the quest’s own POI points from the current retail client, projected onto the in-game zone map. The game marks one blob as the quest’s turn-in; the rest are objective areas. Points that fall outside a map’s window are dropped rather than guessed at.

Where this quest fits
Before this quest
Taken from the storyline's own step order.
- Rift Recon
Devourers are a problem. Rifts are a bigger problem. They will keep bringing devourers. We must close them. To do this, we need information. Take the crescendal. Use it to analyze the rifts. Bring the information back to us.
After this quest
Taken from the storyline's own step order.
- Jiro to Hero
I have spoken to other jiro. Our orb can create a dampening field. It should close the rifts and stop new ones from forming. It must be done where the Maw magic is strongest. Between the giant chains. The power released by the orb will draw devourers.
