I don't know if they removed the sparkle since WoD or what, but the acorns are really hard to see now, look closely on the ground for things that look more like red crystals with no outline or anything,

Return to the Earth

Acorns are scattered around base of the tree in the middle of Ruby Dragonshrine. Bodies are around the outside of the area. Very fast respawn rate on acorns.
Turning my UI off (Alt+Z was my default) enabled the quest item identifier on the seeds. Try turning that off and see if sparkles start to pop up around the base of the tree. I'm not sure if this will work for everyone, but without the sparkle these seeds are incredibly difficult to spot. Before switching off the UI, I was convinced I was looking in the wrong spot or the quest was broken.

What to do
Description
I have another task that needs attention. I have brothers who are falling in the battle overhead and if we do not act quickly, they will only bolster the emberwyrm ranks. Get into the shrine through the pass in the south... the Scourge presence should be lighter there. Search the shrine for ruby acorns that have fallen from the tree and plant them near the bodies of my fallen brood. Through this, they can give new life... a proud fate for any of my kind.

Pins are the quest’s own POI points from the current retail client, projected onto the in-game zone map. The game marks one blob as the quest’s turn-in; the rest are objective areas. Points that fall outside a map’s window are dropped rather than guessed at.

Where this quest fits
Before this quest
Taken from the storyline's own step order.
- Heated Battle
The Scourge have overrun the shrine. The shrine's keeper, Dahlia Suntouch, is nowhere to be found. The red wyrms that fell in the shrine's defense now beset us in the form of twisted skeletal emberwyrms. The situation is dire, <race>.
After this quest
Taken from the storyline's own step order.
- Through Fields of Flame
I have one final task for you, <race>... one that should turn the tide of this fight. Return to the shrine and kill the necromancers that are fueling this onslaught. With them dead, we should be able to beat these forces back and eventually retake the shrine.
