Tainted Cores

Tainted Cores is a quest for level 10-54 in Maldraxxus. It is step 5 of 10 in the Matron of Spies storyline. The quest's turn-in marker is in Maldraxxus at 73.6, 44.6. It rewards 7,350 experience and money.

Description

This lich seeks a reward for his assault on the House of Eyes. But the power he craves will be his downfall.

We will use our knowledge of his secret ritual to lure him out of the House of Rituals.

Take these crystals, <name>. Charge them with anima reclaimed from Mor'Bitan's slain minions.

But fracture them first, so that they shatter as the ritual nears completion... but not before Mor'Bitan believes that it has begun.

That is when we will strike.

For anyone not being familiar with the background of the name of this quest: [item=31088] were a core mechanic in the fight of [npc=21212], final boss of the Serpentshrine Cavern Raid during The Burning Crusade. A rather annoying one, to be precise, as the [npc=22009] dropping it would despawn 15 seconds or so after killing it; all the while tons of other adds would have to be managed. To make things even better, originally the player holding a [item=31088] was rooted, requiring them to throw it to another raid-member within range thus building a daisy-chain all the way to one of the pylons where they had to be used in order to deactivate [npc=21212]'s shield.

PS: This is also why [npc=162487], her dead counterpart within Maldraxxus (Shadowlands), refers to the hero as being the person having killed her.

If you are used to put out the item (crystal) before you starting to kill your target you need to be fast because the crystal despawn in like 3 sec and you don´t get credit if you are to slow.
Just relax and do it after the you killed the minions.

You have proven a useful ally, <name>. Mephiles undoubtedly possesses a wealth of information for us. However, the House of Rituals is unforgiving when it comes to betrayal. He will not talk. Not that it matters. The House of Eyes has ways to...

It would seem we have a means of luring Mor'Bitan to us. But what good is a web if the prey can run free? For these rituals to work, the liches require a magical conduit. They draw runes with finely ground maldracite to channel anima.
