In case someone did not post this before, you don't need to stay in the actual lightning forge to make this item. Any anvil works.

However, making the remake of TBC weapons requires thunder forge, even though tooltip does not indicate that.

The list regarding the learnt recipes is currently wrong here.

You will learn the 522 items and the 458 pvp items by creating this ingot.

After creating 5 Ingots you can build one of the 463 reborn Weapons to learn the 476 version and after 10 more Ingots you will learn the 502 Version(The final form) that requires 15 Ingots

Few things to note about this new Blacksmithing spell.

  • It currently does not specify any 1 day cooldown, like you get from Living Steel. However, I expect it will have a 1 day cooldown when it hits live so it comes in line with the other professions. This has a 1 day cooldown that makes it into another daily-transmute or daily-gem craft as you see in Alchemy and Jewelcrafting, and now Leatherworking and Tailoring too.

  • It doesn't mention that it is limited to the current expansion's Blacksmithing plans, nor does it mention anything about raid-only dropped plans. I fully expect this to discover all plans available in game, preferring higher level over the lower level plans first. This could put excessive value into the profession for some people who get lucky, which I believe is the way the devs wanted this to go. EDIT: seems to be prioritising the new crafted PVP gear for now.

  • The operative word here is "may". This is what further reinforces my expectations that this will have a cooldown - or a phenomenally low chance on no cooldown (a.k.a. a money sink) Certainly has a cooldown and seems to be a guarantee to discover a recipe.

  • The recipe for this spell (from [item=94721]) seems to have been hotfixed so that players can't aggro [npc=69461] any more (thanks to minikeg654's comment for the info).

Obviously this is just speculation and we'll know more when it hits Live servers has had more time.

EDIT (for live): As with the other profession changes, most people are reporting that they are learning PVP gear recipes for the moment and we should start to expect other patterns as soon as that becomes less of an option for this spell to choose from.

This recipe is learned from [item=94552] which is a quest reward from Lightning Steel, which is started from [item=94721], a 100% drop for Blacksmiths from [npc=69461], an easy mini-boss mob on the Isle of Thunder. The quest also gives a bonus [item=94111] on completion. If you drop Blacksmithing and relearn it, you will simply have to kill Itoka again and you can loot the recipe directly from him.

The recipe creates 1 [item=94111] at the cost of 10 Ghost Iron Bar and can only be crafted once per day at any Anvil. You will always learn one of the Haunted Steel / Crafted Dreadful recipes each time you craft an Ingot until you have learned them all, meaning you will need a total of 38 days and 380 Ghost Iron Bar to learn all the recipes.

A useful script that will place an icon on your cursor which you can drop into your action bars and allows you to craft from there is:

/run PickupSpell(138646)

[item=94111] is used exclusively for crafting 6 BoE (3 one-hand and 3 2-hand) "Reborn" weapons which are identical skins to previously removed Burning Crusade Weaponsmithing weapons, with each craft having an ilvl 463 blue version which can then be upgraded to epic 476 ilvl and a further upgrade to 502 ilvl, each costing more mats and each having a slightly different appearance.

Each upgraded version is learned from crafting the previous weapon the first time and requires the previous weapon to be consumed on craft.
Make sure to equip the weapon before crafting the next stage if you want to learn the transmog as it is BoE by default.

This will not always teach you a Plan you dont have. i have crafted it twice since my server opened the thunder forge and no new plans yet

Edit: Since making 4 more bars i have gotten a plan each time. Maybe it was just a glitch for the first couple of bars. OMW to making Lionheart Executioner, Reborn. :)

Recipes learned:
[item=93455]
[item=93622]
[item=93457]

And 1 iLvl 522 Item [item=94265]

minikeg654+2via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

This has a 1 day cooldown and can teach you how to make Dreadful PvP gear. I'm not sure what else you can learn. I used it and learned how to make [item=93622]. I learned this the first day 5.2 launched and haven't been able to use it again, I guess you need a thunder forge now.

minikeg654+1via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

The recipe was available the first day of 5.2. You just had to do some wall climbing. The next day there was a hotfix that took out the npc that dropped Strange Metal Ingot. Now we have to have to wait until stage 3 opens up on your realm to get the item.

962823+1via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

It works fine. You need to kill that NPC outside the forge to get the first quest, then you make your first ingots inside the Thunder Forge -- but after that you can make one ingot and do your research each day from **anywhere** where there is an anvil.

dlbert2000+0via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

Getting "cannot use this here" error when trying to use this now everywhere I try

edit: this was the hotfix Blizzard implemented before your server reached stage 4 to prevent the few people that had gotten the Lightning Steel Ingot pattern before it was removed from getting a huge advantage over the rest of the blacksmiths

Phalek-1via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

Phalek here, on my Server the Lightning Forge has been open for two days, giving us currently only 2 chances to use this cooldown, on both attempts i have received an Epic Recipe - 1st day = Haunted Steel Dreads, DPS Haste, Mastery boots - 2nd day = Haunted Steel Headguard, Tanking Parry, Mastery helmet. Im curious on if the epics are alot more common than they should be, or if i have been really lucky this far?

1105055-6via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

i have 4 of these ingots so far. i logged in today and tried to caft my 5th one in hopes of making a weapon.

"You can't use that here."

i cant use it anywheres. not at the thunderforge, shrine, anywheres. does blizz really expect people to wait 2-3 weeks to make plate? my server isnt getting the next zone anytime soon seemings its been almost a week and we still dont have it.

i'm so sick of getting ^%#$^@ed over by blizz
