One of two methods available to tailors to create [item=82447].
Cooldown is not always 24 hours as stated, the cooldown resets at midnight regardless of the time the item was created.
Requires standing in the Silken Fields, an area in the center of Valley of the Four Winds, just south-east of Halfhill. The other method of crafting is Song of Harmony which offers no cooldown but requires 3 x Spirit of Harmony in place of 3 of the 8 bolts of cloth. This methods requires standing in the Silken Fields like its counterpart.
Discoverable patterns have been, added in 5.2.0, from using the Imperial Silk daily cooldown. These have been working much like Inscription research, where each Imperial Silk has also taught a new tailoring pattern.
The Song of Harmony does not offer the chance to learn any recipes.

This can now be crafted anywhere. You do NOT have to be in the Silken Fields anymore. 6.02 removed the location requirement.
With 5.1, crafting Imperial Silk will reward a [item=92960] instead of the [item=82447] itself.
The [item=92960] will contain one [item=82447] with a chance to contain either [item=90900] or [item=90902].
Note that using the Song of Harmony will not reward a [item=92960] and thus you can not receive one of the new pets using this method.

Cooldown change for Imperial Silk - Patch 5.1:
In Patch 5.1 most time-based events were changed to standardized, region-wide times. This change was made in order to battle the confusion with changing times due to cross-realm features like zone coalescing (CRZ).North American Realms - North American Pacific Standard Time (GMT -8 hours)
3:00 a.m. PSTOceanic Realms - Australian Eastern Standard Time (GMT +10 hours)

The Silken Fields are south-east from Halfhill.
This will make your life easier! Try it out.

Note that as of 5.1 the cooldown has been changed to match the daily reset for your server, i.e. 3am PST.
So apparantly in 5.2 by using this, you have a chance to learn a new recipe.
As far as I know, midnight (00:00) server time should be the reset for 24h cooldowns.
As of patch 5.2, using this CD will teach you one of the recipies found under the "Teaches" tab (all the new items from 5.2, including the updated crafted PvP sets and the new PvE craftables).
For any wondering, I think I've confirmed this will only teach the new recipes added in 5.2. I've used it each day since release and learned a pattern 100%. Today I ran out of new patterns to learn, learned nothing.
That was fairly expected, but thought I'd confirm it.
Now, in 6.0.3, you don't need to be in Silken field for either Imperial Silk or Song of Harmony.
Fixed. I usually write on the russian part of the site but if I dont see info in english, I write here too. Therefore mistake can happen.
As of 11.0, there have been API changes to the original PickUpSpell() command, so that no longer works. Use /run C_Spell.PickupSpell() now instead.
Pretty funny - this link takes you to the Russian Blizz site. Na Zdorovye!
If you have a weak alt that doesn't have MoP flying, and you want to get him to the Silken Fields, the easiest for Alliance is to take the Stormwind portal to Jade Forest, walk west into Krasarang Wilds, go to the town of Zhu's Watch, and get the flight point there. Then continue north into Valley of the Four Winds, and west to Halfhill, where you also pick up the flight point. You can now take the gryphon straight from the entry point in Jade Forest to Halfhill, from where it's a short run to Silken Fields.
To create one [item=82447] the Tailor can use the Materials-patterns Imperial Silk(550/600) or Song of Harmony(560/600).
The Requires: Silken Fields in those patterns is a zone requirement.
You need to be in the sub-zone Silken Fields of Valley of the Four Winds. The next Flightmaster is [npc=60231]The pattern Imperial Silk creates the [item=92960], that always contain exactly one [item=82447] (and sometimes the companion [item=90902] or [item=90900])
Unfortunately, for whatever reason, using the Song of Harmony method to create Imperial Silk, you still DO need to be in the Silken Fields. :( Hopefully this is something Blizzard overlooked, and is planning on changing in the near future.
This is apparently not the case Chrth, as I crafted one of these a little over an hour ago, and dailies reset 37minutes ago, and I am not able to craft another one now. I don't care if this gets downrated once answered, but does anyone know for sure exactly when the cooldown resets? I don't know if daylight savings has had an affect on it, but I do know that daily quest resets changed from 3am PST to 4am PST with DST, and am pretty sure heroic/raid resets also changed due to DST. I am just curious as I have just found that it did NOT reset along with dailies as the above guy claims.
Just a note: you will auto learn the pattern... do not look for an item to appear in your bags (realized this after a week of making cocoons...lol)
I just had Crafted Dreadful Gladiator's Mooncloth Mantle suddenly appear in my bags instead of learning a recipe when I did my daily crafting of Imperial Silk. Is this something new in 5.3? That is, is there a chance for an item to actually drop instead of just learning the pattern for it?
I didn't get any silk, though.
I'm also not sure if I had learned that pattern previously or if I also discovered it while crafting it since it is a priest item and my tailor is a mage so I wouldn't have noticed that I had it.
WoooT!! :D finally can do that anywhere, Garrison tailoring+panda easier travel time
How can you get there at 85? (without a friend taking you there).
it is 3am P.S.T. (Californian time zone) regardless of your server according to a GM... so your dailies reset has nothing to do with it.
Nice, a proc tailoring pet. This will make the CD valuable even after MoP, and not just for making bags (although you can obviously do both for extra profit.)
I thought the moth was also a proc though? Can't wait to see what's up with that.
Hmm, thinking about it it could be random loot couldn't it? Ah well, I am not doing PTR this time so just have to wait and see.
axlefoley: if you can determine that's the case I'll modify my note appropriately. Based on the database info (don't have the Spirits to test with my Tailor), though, the Song of Harmony does not give a Silkworm Cocoon.
Thanks for that. Always bugged me that there were 2 different reset times. Did throw me when I was waiting for my usual reset time for proffs and nothing happened. Why did Blizz not put this change in the patch notes is a mystery though.
It wasn't directly mentioned in the patch notes, but in the General section it stated that timezones are now standardized, with a link to a forum post with more details about daily event times. I've updated my comment above with the link.
discovered 2 of the 5.2 crafted gladiator recipes so far
I really wonder what kind of recipe
Since the patch I have crafted imperial silk twice and gotten a cocoon both times. Both times it had the Imperial Silkworm and a piece of Imperial Silk in it. The second time I opened the cocoon it also thaught me Crafted Dreadful Gladiator's Silk Cowl.
Which midnight does it reset at? Server time? EST? PST? Dailies reset at 1AM PST and that didn't reset the c/d.
The Silken Fields is in the center of Valley of the Four Winds. You can safely get there with a level 80 as long as you can get to the Panda Lands
I am fairly sure I did get the silkworm cocoon from song of harmony I could be mistaking and just wasn't paying attention but I don't think so
