After picking up the quest make sure to talk to [npc=161553] again and then he will jump so you can start following him.

Note: Sadly you can't just run to where the quest marker ends up on the map and you must follow [npc=161553] the entire time and if you lose him at any point you can go back to where you picked up the quest to restart it.

You'll also want to pick up the other two quests Light Respite and Skulking in the Darkness as you can do them both while doing this escort as they'll be along the path. It'll also save you time from having to run all the way back to the start.

This is the kind of BS that really infuriates me in this game. There are so many of these escort quests yet they're all different (do the designers use RNG to pick their design too or are they really that bad?).

Can't Blizz standardize on this stuff so you don't have to guess? I was following him and along the path I of course found some berries and mobs to kill for the two other related quests. So I stopped to do them, Alwyn seemed to wait for me so seemed good. Yet evidentially I strayed too far killing mobs and he disappeared. I was hoping he'd gone on to the end, but no I had to go back to the beginning just to activate him again.

This is a long and boring escort quest, I don't want to have to do it twice. And it's stupid to make you escort and then go back and pick up all the stuff you passed by for the other 2 quests.

Really annoying!

Where this quest fits

Before this quest

Taken from the storyline's own step order.

  • Land of LightBastion · Level 60

The Ember Ward is filled with outcasts from Revendreth society, whether they rebelled, crossed a noble, or simply looked at Denathrius wrong. It is a Light-scorched land that drives venthyr mad, unless they manage to stay within the shadows. If Alwin is there, it may be too late.

After this quest

Taken from the storyline's own step order.

  • Skulking in the DarknessBastion · Level 60

I had only heard tales of the Ember Ward before now. It's breathtaking... yet terrible. The Light burns the venthyr here, scorching their flesh and driving them mad. The only reprieve is darkness, but thugs have taken over every inch of shelter outside of this sanctuary.
