Theotar will accompany you for the three missions he offers, Theotar's Mission, Unbearable Light, and My Terrible Morning.

There is a bar over his head indicating his mental state. As he is exposed to sun light, his mental health will decrease. When it reaches zero, he will become incoherent and start screaming infrequently.
You can try to keep to the shadows around the edges of the valley to keep the bar from going lower.

His mental state does not seem to have any effect on the success of the mission or your ability to turn in quests!

So I wouldn't worry too much if you cannot keep the bar above zero.

I'm glad his willpower has no effect on the success of your quests (via Zaynah's comment), as it doesn't look like there's any way to regenerate it.

But he also doesn't help, just follows you and screams when he walks out into the Light. WHY NOT JUST STAY WHERE HE WAS IN THE SHADE

I'd like to mention, turning in the parasol first does NOT fix his predicament. All three of the quest turn-ins mention his losing sanity, and even after I actively tried and succeeded in keeping his willpower above 0, turning in the final quest seemed to set it to 0 regardless. Just a small little bit of flavor! :)

What to do

StorylineThe Mad Duke, step 6 of 11
Rewards25g 50s 60c, 8,050 XP

Description

Oh the Accuser sent you? How keen! I do, in fact, know the fate of Prince Renathal... at least part of it. When our assault on the Master's keep failed, we were both captured. I was banished to the Ember Ward, but the Prince was dragged off to Sinfall. I'm cultivating an escape from this Light-blighted land to follow after him, but the Light here... it makes it hard to think. My parasol once protected me, but the ruffians destroyed it. Help me rebuild it, and we'll find the Prince together.
