The Trainer's Challenge: Big Bao

This quest requires you to defeat Big Bao, who you access via conversation. At current gear levels the fight is not easy.

In melee range he will use a knockback followed immediately by Force Burst, which is difficult, but not impossible, to interrupt. He also uses War Stomp, which has a cast time but is not interruptable, nor is it particularly easy to escape the range of it. Your best bet is to stun him to interrupt the cast, dps for a second, and then move slightly farther out and prepare to get out of range if he begins casting it again once he wakes up.

He has a death grip style ability for casters as well.

He hits very hard, so use your cooldowns, keep dots on him to continue damage while you're stunned, and know that the quickest path back from the spirit rezzer is to head south a short distance where you'll find a path up the cliff to the Arboretum.

There is a one minute time limit on this fight.

It doesn't say as much in the quest text and the timer is very tiny in his buffs, but if you can't beat him in one minute you lose. This makes the fight very challenging for classes, Protection-specced or healers, who don't have much in the way of burst damage.

Additionally if you die, it takes you to a graveyard without flight in the middle of the ocean. There is no way back other than a very long run or a spirit rez.

Mages;

It's not too hard fight, but it's not too easy either. You're most likely going to lose your first fight, but don't give up! :) I did this with ilevel 340 so it doesn't require full heroic gear (340 = questing gear + 2 PvP + 2 heroic pieces). I first tried to kill him as arcane mage, but i got totally wrecked. Fire seems to be the best option.

1. Before the fight, use your buffs. Remember to use Ice barrier too, if you have the talent.
2. Wait for all the cooldowns before you start the fight. You'll lose your ice barrier quite fast so you want to have another one ready.

Okay, now the fight. He uses 4 (5?) different abilities.

1. Force Burst: Deals 300% weapon damage. This one is a pain in the ass. He'll spam it all the time, so better watch out. It dealt about 30k damage on me (I have 11,8k armor).

2. Pull close: This ability will pull you right next to him, dealing 300% weapon damage at the same time. This spell doesn't really change anything, since most of his spells can be casted from range. I used this as an opportunity to stun him with dragon's breath. Got my distance and back to bursting him (keep some distance just in case of the next ability that i'm going to tell you about).

3. War stomp: 2 second stun, 500% weapon damage. Pretty much the same as taurens racial ability, but much, much worse. Believe me, it's deadly. This ability is the reason you may want to keep your distance as a mage.

4. Knock away: 125% weapon damage (AoE), knocks you back a bit. Nothing serious here. He'll just interrupt one of your spells if you're close to him. So keep your distance (at least 10 yards)!

The strategy to win is quite simple. Keep your distance(!) and CC him as much as possible. You have 1 minute to kill him. Think twice before you use your combustion (You'll need to deal a LOT of damage too, so combustion helps a lot). Keep Living bomb active at all times and just hope for good pyroblast procs and crits.

(!) This fight is a great opportunity to use your Alter time ability. Big Bao is able to take down all your health quite fast so using this ability to restore some of your health is quite a huge help in this fight.
