The Traitor's True Name

The Traitor's True Name is an Alliance-only quest for level 10-40 in Shadowmoon Valley. It is step 15 of 18 in The Exarch Council storyline. The quest's turn-in marker is in Shadowmoon Valley at 62.5, 26.2. It rewards 4 reward items, 1 reputation reward, 6,850 experience and money. Completing it counts toward 1 achievement.

Description

We must give the traitor no place to hide. I have a focusing lens that will illuminate cloaked fel energy. If it were placed on a high point, it could act like a beacon, lighting up anyone in town who reeks of the fel taint.

There is a prayer circle atop the Exarch's Rise to the north that will serve our purpose. Plant the focusing lens, <name>. If you reveal anything, deal with it. Then meet me below.

The traitor is revealed as follows:

Spoiler
(As you approach:)
Exarch Othaar: Ahh, it's you. Trust me, friend. I will handle this. You may go.
(You plant the lens)
Exarch Othaar: What is that? Is that Maladaar's work? No, no. You don't need to do that. He is not to be trusted!
(Othaar glows with fel energy)
Exarch Othaar: Argh! Damn him. I thought I'd gotten rid of Maladaar when I gave him up to the Iron Horde.
(You attack.)
Exarch Othaar: Yes. I had Hataaru killed, and you are next!
Exarch Othaar: I am not the traitor here. It was the false prophet Velen who betrayed our people!
Exarch Othaar: I serve the true master now. The Legion whose call I once denied.
Exarch Othaar: My lord Sargeras will scorch this pathetic world, as he has countless others.
Exarch Othaar: I have sworn the sacrement. I have taken my new name: Socrethar.
(he transforms into Socrethar)
Socrethar: I will take my rightful place.
Socrethar: There are others at my command. In Shattrath and Auchindoun.
Socrethar: Enough! When next we meet, it will be on MY terms.
Socrethar: Tell the remaining Exarchs to number their days.

*Spoilers*

Exarch Othaar, now overlord Socrethar, was one of the Burning Legion commanders in Outland during the Buring Crusade, along with Doomlord Kazzak. He was as powerful and manipulative, convincing Kaleen to abandon the Aldor and was able to knock out Ishanah, the Aldor leader in one shot. I look forward to taking him down once again.

Before this quest

Taken from the storyline's own step order.

  • Warning the ExarchsShadowmoon Valley · Level 10-40

You set the book ablaze, but not before noting its contents. The demonic tome was dedicated to enchanting weapons with fel energy. It looked as though the goal was to ensnare the victim's soul. The Exarchs must be warned that traitors are among them!

After this quest

Taken from the storyline's own step order.

  • Shut 'er DownShadowmoon Valley · Level 10-40

Burrowing native creatures known as "goren" have tunneled into our crystal mines. Judging from our experience at the gates, I suspect my own experimental resonance crystal is whipping the native wildlife into a frenzy.
