Okay, folks... this is it. I didn't do ANY of the quests in Suramar on my pally. I did the breadcrumb quest and left [npc=97140] in the cave to fend for herself. Then Blizz came along and said, "Hey! Guess what?". So, for anyone else who has to do some remedial Suramar, this is ALL you have to do. Pick up An Old Ally from [npc=97140] . Do the following quests -
An Old Ally
Scattered Memories
Written in Stone
Subject 16
Kel'danath's Legacy
Sympathizers Among the Shal'dorei
The Masks We Wear
Blood of My Blood
MasqueradeAll this took around 30 minutes.
Picked up [item=140326] and [item=136269] along the way to increase [currency=1155 domain=www] cap to 500.
Farmed 320 [currency=1155 domain=www] doing the quests, farmed the remaining 180 in under 10 minutes.
All in all, it took me less than 45 minutes start to finish.
If you got this far, CONGRATULATIONS! Now you can purchase your [item=147768] from [npc=109562] to complete A Few Things First and get on with obtaining your class mount.
EDIT: I posted this when the expansion was fresh. I only edited it recently because the links were all broken, and I only edited the links. The information may or may not be 100% accurate in 2025.

For anyone doing this in Legion Remix, whilst you do get the dialogue which suggests that the requirements for this quest will be "glossed over", you still need the [item=147768] which is sold by the [npc=109563] for 500 [currency=1155]. His coordinates are /way Suramar 49.29 74.75 Entrance
Once you have the [item=147768] you will complete the quest without requiring the Leystone Ore
To note, a friend of mine who has a paladin alt is unable to complete the quest without having advanced Suramar to the point where you get the disguise. If you haven't progressed Suramar, you can't speak to the NPC.

Description
Lately I've been working with the ore of this land, leystone it's called. I've found its qualities to hold remarkable strength and durability. We'll need a lot of it for this. There is felslate, but that's a probably too tainted for what you're looking to do with this barding. You know, I also like to adorn my pieces with something sparkly, like a jewel. I've heard that the elves of Suramar have particularly beautiful ones. Perhaps you could acquire one for this project.

Pins are the quest’s own POI points from the current retail client, projected onto the in-game zone map. The game marks one blob as the quest’s turn-in; the rest are objective areas. Points that fall outside a map’s window are dropped rather than guessed at.

Before this quest
Taken from the storyline's own step order.
- The Hammer of Dalaran
Should we wish to make this barding worthy of the steed who will bear it, we'll need to upgrade it. Right now it's just good for not getting you kicked off your mount. Speak with Alard Schmied in Dalaran.
After this quest

- Leather to Legendary
Let's begin, shall we? I mean, I'll be doing all the work, but you get to watch! <Alard grins a wide smile at you and begins working.>
