Commander Jarod Shadowsong

This quest really glorifies Jarod. He deserves it, but he's probably not how you think he is.

Initially, the Night Elf resistance host (against the Burning Legion in the War of the Ancients) was led by Kur'talos Ravencrest, a capable commander who was slain by one of Queen Azshara's fanatics. Desdel Stareye inherited the role, but he was a pompous noble with little idea of how to wage war or the necessity of allies against the Legion. Stareye was slain during his own offensive against the Legion, and the Night Elf lines crumbled without a commander, and so Jarod took initiative and tried to direct the forces as best he could.

As this particular battle went on, he unofficially became the new commander, as officers above his rank came to him and he improvised and gave them the most sensible orders he could think of on such short notice. He was always humble and never let it get to his head; merely doing his best and not really thinking he'd done anything amazing.

When the Ancients later came to join the host, placing themselves under his command, his reaction could be expressed in modern terms as "wat".

During the final moments of the war, as others (Malfurion and Illidan, to name a few) struggled to keep Sargeras from entering Azeroth, Archimonde humiliated and tortured Jarod for holding back the Legion's advance. Jarod however decided to make one last stand against the overpowering demon, and charged at him - not even expecting to scratch him - in the same moment as Sargeras' portal crumbled from a distraction (read about Broxigar!) and all the Legion was sucked back into the Twisting Nether.

But to those on the battlefield, who knew little of what was going on over at the Well of Eternity, it looked exactly like Jarod's single - pathetic, against someone like Archimonde - blow had struck the demon high into the air, and his entire host with him, all drawn by the pull of the failing portal.
