For people like me who simply thought the Lasher Seed was experience for me and used it, don't worry!

Go to Naralex, get the Nightmare Sample, and then plant it in the Fresh Dirt nearby. Kill the Malevolent Lasher that spawns. Turn in quest.

Phew, glad I didn't screw up after all. Hope this helps!

Naralex awaits you at his tent. coordinates are 69.0 73.6 in The Dreamgrove.
Speak with him and follow him to the pile of groud. Plant a seed, wait until [npc=110391] spawns and make it dead.

Where this quest fits

Before this quest

Taken from the storyline's own step order.

  • Sampling the NightmareLevel 10-45

There is still so much that we don't know about the Nightmare. Before we can fight it, we must understand how it spreads. Let us send our champions to the roots of Shaladrassil in Val'sharah, and ask them to bring back samples to study.

After this quest

Taken from the storyline's own step order.

  • Malorne's RefugeLevel 10-45

I see... it is as we have always feared. The Emerald Nightmare has found our world. We must call upon the ancient god, Malorne. Travel southeast to the shrine at Malorne's Refuge. There, we druids have kept a sacred relic for thousands of years, a gift from the white stag himself.
