If you time this fight right, you have a good shot at getting a level 1 to lvl 8. Using just your favorite lvl 25, play that pet until Jack enters the fight. He almost always starts out with a buff move. If you can get that level 1 in and out of there safely it's about the biggest jump you can start off with w/o having to blow through a bunch of bandages.
NOTE: This fight is while wearing a Safari Hat.
Edit: Jack always starts the fight, so have your lvl 1 as your starter and cross your fingers.
