**UPDATE - the objective [npc=96487] for quest What Horrible Presents! has been hotfixed to respawn very quickly!**

This is one of the four garrison daily quests introduced for Winter Veil 2015. It rewards [item=128659], used for various items. Below is a guide to earning and spending this currency.

  • EARNING [item=128659]

    Each holiday has 4 associated daily quests. Three of these quests reward 1 [item=128659] each, and one rewards 2 (for a total of 5 [item=128659] per day). All of the quests require a level 100 character with a level 3 garrison.
    All Winter's Veil quests are completed in a quest area in Frostfire Ridge, centered around roughly (45,28).
    [item=128659] are used exclusively for items sold by [npc=96362] - mostly garrison decorations.

    After you have acquired all 5 different Winter's Veil decorations and the toy (Crashin' Thrashin' Killdozer Controller), the [item=128659] can be used to purchase [item=128670]s from [npc=96362] (5 supplies each).

    Below is a chart outlining the quests:
    Quest
    Objectives
    Reward
    Notes
    [npc=96454]
    [item=128659] X 1
    Free 5 children from cages in the quest area.
    [npc=96487]
    [item=128659] X 1
    Use the supplied [item=128675] and place the targeting circle over [npc=96487]s in the quest area to complete this.
    [npc=96449]
    [item=128659] X 1
    Kill 8 [npc=96449]s in the quest area.
    [npc=96448]
    [item=128659] X 2
    Kill [npc=96448], a mini-boss with close to 2 million health.

  • SPENDING [item=128659]

    Below are the items that can be purchased for [item=128659].
    Item
    Cost
    Notes

    [item=128665]
    [item=128659] X 5
    This decoration places Christmas lights all over your garrison. These do not appear to glow or emit any light of their own, though.

    [item=128666]
    [item=128659] X 5
    This decoration places many Christmas trees around your garrison, with presents around them. Note that the presents are purely decorative, and cannot be interacted with.

    [item=128667]
    [item=128659] X 5
    This decoration puts pairs of [npc=96723]s in your garrison (I counted a total of 5 pairs, 10 total) that throw snowballs at each other periodically, and spawns [npc=96730], a festively garbed dancing goblin. It also puts a PX-238 Winter Wondervolt machine just outside your garrison town hall that will transform your into a Little Helper. Useful for the Winter Veil achievement With a Little Helper from My Friends.

    [item=128668]
    [item=128659] X 5
    This decoration dresses your guards in festive Christmas outfits (i.e. green or red Santa hats with or without Santa suits). It appears to be random as to how completely your guards will be dressed - some will have only Santa hats, while others will have a full Santa garb.
    Note that Ugly Christmas Sweaters are not part of these outfits!

    [item=128669]
    [item=128659] X 5
    This decoration places candy canes along the edges of the paths in your garrison, and within your town hall will place a few hanging mistletoe and stockings.

    [item=128670]
    [item=128659] X 5
    Gift that contains ONE of the following:
    - 300 [currency=1101]
    - 300 [currency=824]
    - 1000 [currency=823]
    - [item=128315]
    - [item=128314]
    - [item=128312]
    - Minion of Grumpus
    [item=128659] X 5
    A toy that is part of the Crashin' Thrashin' Iron Armada set (collecting them all grants the achievement Iron Armada)

    Some notes about the decorations outlined above:

    • Each character can buy 1 decoration per day, as the four dailies for each holiday provide a total of 5 [item=128659] per day.

    • The decorations are account bound, and can be sent to your other characters. As such, you can do the dailies on 4 alts and have all 5 decorations on your main on a single day!

    • They can only be displayed in a level 3 garrison.

    • Multiple decorations can be active in your garrison simultaneously.

    • Right-clicking a decoration to "use" it applies the effect described above to your garrison, and consumes the item. This effectively "unlocks" that decoration for your character, and it will be applied any time you choose after that.

    • You can speak to [npc=96362] and select "The party's over. Get rid of these decorations, Izzy." to remove the decorations.

      • If you have cancelled the garrison decoration as above, speaking to Izzy again and selecting "Make my garrison ready for a Winter Veil party." will reapply all Winter Veil decorations you have unlocked.

      • If you have unlocked more than one decoration, the above actions (to remove or restore the decorations) will do so to ALL decorations from the specified holiday, not just selected ones.

    • Decorations for Winter Veil and those for Hallow's Eve are mutually exclusive - you can only have Hallow's Eve or Winter Veil decorations active at any given time, and not both simultaneously.

      • You can switch from Winter Veil to Hallow's Eve decorations and vice versa by speaking to Izzy - this will overwrite one with the other, although you can switch back at any time.

    • The currency for the decorations (enabling you to buy them) is only available during Winter's Veil. As such, these decorations can only be acquired then. However, the decorations can be applied to your garrison (after you have unlocked them) all year round!

    • The decorations persist in your garrison until cancelled, across more than one day, and even if you log out.

The children are not in a cave or the nearby grotto. So skip the areas guarded by ogres. The cages are outside in fixed locations near Grumpus and the Grumplings. Although the children randomly spawn in cages, the cages remain where they are. Look for a crowd and players coming and going. Some cage locations:

  • 43.8, 27.2

  • 44.5, 27.9

  • 45.1, 27.5

  • [li4]5.8, 27.3
  • 45.9, 27.6

  • 46.3, 26.2

So, I go scanning down through all of this stuff that is absolutely useless when concerned with this quest and, much to my amazement, I found nothing useful for this quest at all. :)
Don't feel bad because I left nothing useful it's only because I have nothing useful to leave, either. I'm like the rest of you only I came here for help. :)
