Not sure if it was a fluke, but I found an incredibly stupid workaround that might be worth a try on a sub-70 character. Source: level 51 brewmaster with crap gear.

Went to logout while still controlling Huln, and thought I'd give it one more go last second. Hit the 'exit vehicle' button while the logout timer was going, and it put me back into my normal body, with the drogbar still there. Canceled logout, smacked the drogbar with only mild difficulty, got the quest done. There seems to be a gap you can slip through, in other words.

It's not a perfect solution, but until this is adjusted, give it a shot.

You know what's interesting? This whole area, including the hut Huln had put the ward in, was destroyed by Dargrul. There's a massive crater there now, so the ward should be gone. I have no idea how we manage to "reactivate" the ward inside a non-existing hut on a non-existing hill.

Description

The heroes of Highmountain's past placed wards to protect our land from the insidious Old Gods. The deeds of these noble champions kept us safe for thousands of years. We must not fail their memory. Huln Highmountain himself placed the ward here at Snowblind Mesa. It must be reactivated for us to have any hope of saving Ebonhorn. Enter the echo of Huln's spirit, and let his courage lead you to the location of this ward.

Pins are the quest’s own POI points from the current retail client, projected onto the in-game zone map. The game marks one blob as the quest’s turn-in; the rest are objective areas. Points that fall outside a map’s window are dropped rather than guessed at.

Where this quest fits

Before this quest

Taken from the storyline's own step order.

  • Minions of the DarknessLevel 40-90

Oenia Skyhorn was a legendary chieftain of her tribe. Though she crossed over to the spirit realm long ago, her presence is still felt all around us. Ebonhorn told me that Oenia placed a ward here to protect the people she cared for so deeply... perhaps from the specter of the Darkness.

After this quest

Taken from the storyline's own step order.

  • Curse of the NecrodarkLevel 40-90

It is clear that the Old Gods have long sought to control Highmountain. Their covetous desire speaks to the power of this land, and the strength of the spirits that echo through its peaks and valleys. They will not take our sacred mountain, <name>. Not while I draw breath.
