It seems that the new "golden" digsites of patch 7.2 don't count towards the quest. I tried one of those and there was no quest progress. Afterwards I tried one of the regular digsites and the quest progressed as normal.
Update: This is either extremely buggy or has been hotfixed. I completed my quest today (03/31) and got the last two points with one of the golden digsites.
If you lose Luron, there is an Archaeologist's Whistle in your bags to summon him back. I spent so long getting frustrated with this quest and heading back to the questgiver to pick him back up - just whistle and he shall come :D

Description
The reason I sent for someone was that I've been having trouble keeping up with my research and training my assistant. I was hoping you might be able to show him the ropes again. Get him reacquainted with surveying. Just speak with him when you're ready to go.
