When you pick up the quest, use your quest item to Summon a little surveyor friend. They will follow you while mounted / flying.

Run to the lake.

Find a beacon looking pole thingy on the ground.

Walk up to it.

Protect the surveyor from a few mobs while it does it's business.

If they bug out...Right Click off they buff you have called "Escorting a Surveyor," log out, and try again. It took me a few tries to get this one finished.

It didn't become available to me until I completed "Private Chat". Then, both this quest and "A Thousand Stories in the Sand" finally popped up. I was so glad because it had been driving me crazy that I couldn't get them. :) Hope it works for you, too.

What to do

StorylineAzshara, step 22 of 88
Rewards10g 50s, 4,100 XP

Description

All these cruddy ancient ruins have to be bulldozed if we're ever to see Azshara's full potential. Look on my map here - you see Lake Mennar, to the East? I'll tell you what I see: a future rocket fuel depot! But we need an accurate lay of the land before we can clearcut, bulldoze, landfill, and pave over that lake. All of my surveyors have been spooked off by the oogly-boogleys haunting that area. Escort one of my Jr. grade surveyors to the area and take readings from the equipment that's been set up.

Pins are the quest’s own POI points from the current retail client, projected onto the in-game zone map. The game marks one blob as the quest’s turn-in; the rest are objective areas. Points that fall outside a map’s window are dropped rather than guessed at.
