The Work of One's Hands

The Work of One's Hands is a quest for level 10-51 in Bastion. It is step 8 of 27 in The Aspirant's Crucible storyline. The quest's turn-in marker is in Bastion at 52.9, 83.5. It rewards 4 reward items, 6,950 experience and money.

Description

Too long have my hands been idle!

<Forgelite Sophone smiles warmly at you.>

You cannot know what this means to me, but I might be able to show you. For your aid in restoring my forge, please allow me to craft you a piece of armor.

It will not be an extravagant affair, but through good works we grow to know ourselves better.

I will need your aid once more. Sika and I will guide you on the specifics. All you need to do is listen and do as instructed.

What do you say?

I found the instructions for this could have been a bit clearer:

After "Add 5 fuel to the forge" and "Open a vent", you get to the "Hold the heat steady" stage.

There is a bar above the forge that shows you the current heat level: black on the left = too cold, blue in the centre = just right, black on the right = too hot.
The aim is to keep the heat in the blue zone by adding fuel or opening one or two vents when the heat surges up. When the heat starts to get steady, an additional percentage counter appears on the screen that will go up as long as the heat is in the blue zone until it reaches 100%.

Note that the heat bar is anchored just above the forge, so depending on your viewing angle, you may not be able to see it, which would make the quest basically impossible to complete! (This seems to have changed since Beta)

Before this quest

  • Light the Forge, ForgeliteBastion · Level 10-51

I think we have the materials I will need to light the forge, at long last. I am afraid the place is in a state of disrepair. Between failed attempts at working without anima and simple neglect, I cannot hope to work the forge as it currently stands.

After this quest

Taken from the storyline's own step order.

  • The True Crucible AwaitsBastion · Level 10-51

I confess, <name>. I had little hope when you first arrived. Kleia is convinced that your presence here is a sign of things finally improving in Bastion. I was... skeptical. <The Forgelite gestures to her forge.> What you have done for me will not soon be forgotten.
