For this race I started with 2 Surge Forwards and angled downwards.
For the rest of the race, I used Skyward Ascent to push myself above the purple orbs rather than surging through them, it just seemed safer to do it that way.
I found the Dreamsurge Coalescence that you can collect on the course quite distracting, as the loot popup was directly over the top of my vigor bar.
