The Old Orders

The Old Orders is a quest for level 70-73 in Isle of Dorn. It is step 8 of 9 in the Hidden Edicts storyline. The quest's turn-in marker is in Isle of Dorn at 44.9, 20.6. It rewards 9,500 experience and money.

Description

Long ago, there were once plans to build a tunnel through the mountain into Dornogal.

Before excavation could begin, the surrounding area was suddenly abandoned.

There is no record of what happened. Only a... deterrence--the field--that keeps earthen away from this region.

Every part of my cognitive matrix is pressing for me to leave. But we must persist.

The device's signal indicates something lies within the nearby tower.

20 years ago, before the original WoW was released, there was a plan to give Ironforge a northern exit to the Wetlands. 20 years ago. Let that sink in. I'm feeling a little nostalgic now.

The exit still exists at 72.2, 6.9 in Dun Morogh. There is a road leading to it, and it's surrounded by a few dwarven farms, apparently for the quests that were originally planned there. All in the style of the neighbouring wetlands. Go see for yourself, if you've never been there.

I can not believe I still remember this, but I actually already wrote a comment about it in 2010.

Either this quest writer just got lucky or the quest was written by a really experienced person who's been in WoW a long, long time.

Where to go

Pins are the quest’s own POI points from the current retail client, projected onto the in-game zone map. The game marks one blob as the quest’s turn-in; the rest are objective areas. Points that fall outside a map’s window are dropped rather than guessed at.

Where this quest fits

Before this quest

Taken from the storyline's own step order.

  • A Place ForgottenIsle of Dorn · Level 70-73

There is... a place behind Dornogal that I cannot go. And I am not the only one. Something--a force, most likely titan in origin--keeps the earthen from investigating a small portion of the island behind the city. This, of course, fires my curiosity.

After this quest

Taken from the storyline's own step order.

  • The Old GuardIsle of Dorn · Level 70-73

Dornic... Galan... I've heard those names at the Proscenium! But who was speakin'? They were nae happy with Galan. All those earthen bodies... Repurposed... like reprogrammed? Tae protect what? Let's chase the other signal. Looks like it leads up ahead intae the hills.
