Agreeing to the mission statement opens up a handful of new D.E.T.A. quests, and I would assume that you choose between this faction and the nessingway group, but this is not confirmed.

After finishing this entire quest chain I was still able to pick up the nessingway quests at level 76 with no difficulty, so feel free to do these quests without repercussion.
