If you are confused where to go, there are two underground entrances to go in, inside of two destroyed houses. One contains the water and the other contains the soil and the portals. The entrances are located to the left of where you picked up the quests.

The highest voted Wowhead comments for this page. They are community notes, not TheWoWDB comments.
Entrances are:
Soil: 48.67, 78.85
Water: 47.75, 78.29
Gotta love how the quests neglect to tell you that there are TWO SEPARATE sets of catacombs to go into. One in one destroyed house, and one in another.

What to do
Description
Everything the Legion touches is marred by fingerprints of their corruption. If I can study the traces of magic they leave behind, perhaps I can discern their plans for Karazhan. This vial is specially reinforced to contain fel magic. If you bring me the essences of corrupted soil and water from near their portals, I believe we'll be closer to unraveling their scheme.
Where to go
Pins are the quest’s own POI points from the current retail client, projected onto the in-game zone map. The game marks one blob as the quest’s turn-in; the rest are objective areas. Points that fall outside a map’s window are dropped rather than guessed at.

Where this quest fits
Before this quest
Taken from the storyline's own step order.
- Holding the Lines
Karazhan sits upon a confluence of ley lines. It's why this location was chosen for the tower in the first place... a fact that has not escaped the Legion's notice. If the demons are tapping into these lines of power, they must need their energy for something particularly menacing.
After this quest
Taken from the storyline's own step order.
- Reclaiming the Ramparts
With the ley lines protected we must move to secure the tower's perimeter. Around the tower are several locations where corruption continues to run rampant. Seek out these locations and secure them with these wards.
