The term "Kobold" predates the programming language "COBOL" by hundreds of years. Kobolds are german "sprites", and go back as far as the 13th century.

The term is related to Cobalt, however.

The name of the element cobalt comes from the creature's name, because medieval miners blamed the sprite for the poisonous and troublesome nature of the typical arsenical ores of this metal (cobaltite and smaltite) which polluted other mined elements.

"Snobold" may be a reference to SNOBOL, but it's also short for "Snow Kobold". It's probably both.

Description

Those dirty, stinkin' snobolds... they stole all of my supplies! What's a snobold you ask? It's like a kobold, 'cept they serve the magnataur; kinda take care of them. I know, weird! Anywho, wanna help me out? I know the little creeps stole off with all of my stuff. Stupid me thinkin' that it'd be nice and safe, packed up on the north side of the airstrip. Why don'tcha do me a favor and head north to their stupid Magmoth. There's a cash reward if you bring all my stuff back quick!

Okay, I think I'm going to start making my way back to the airstrip, too. Of course, I'm moving a little slower with this leg injury. Say, do you think you could get there ahead of me and pass on the good news to Ol' Fizzcrank? I bet anything that there'll be a reward in it for you. Thanks, <name>!
